So, my Mrs has a 2018 Ignis which has been great.

And it looks like we may become a two Suzuki household.
Looking at a 2018 1.4S Allgrip Vitara. Loved the way it drives so put a reservation down subject to a couple of small things being corrected.

Tell me I have made a good choice. Lol.

Anything major to worry about? Is it correct that they are a timing chain not a belt?

It certainly has plenty of go and equipment. It's a bit plasticky but all seems solid with no rattles at all.

What sort of MPG can I expect on a real world motorway commute of 30 miles?

Any other top tips?

Hi Bob, welcome, I bought a 1.4 allgrip in January, its been great, wifes car and great in the snow for her. I get about 41 around the doors, so I imagine 50 on a trip, the engines a right pokey wee thing plenty power.
Only thing I found was lack of lumbar support, so the backs of my knees rub on the seat, so I put a black memory cushion at the back of the seat and all well.
I dont know belt or chain, but no faults so far.

Can I ask which memory cushion you bought? The vitara I had last year was great. It was a 2019 model. This one, a new hybrid one, seat feels softer, so I’m getting a bit of backache.

Hi, it's just an old one we had in the house, I tried it to see if it worked and would then buy a proper one, of course it works fine, so I use that one. But there's loads on ebay.

Question chaps, the one I have reserved is a 2018 (17 plate) model. Does it have stop/start?

I didn't check on the test drive 😂

Also, the collision avoidance thing does seem a bit over sensitive, even on the short range setting. I have read others saying about this elsewhere, can it be disabled fully??

#6 ·
Also, does anyone know where the black front grill from this video can be sourced:

The Vitara I have reserved is black, everything is black apart from the grill and I might have to change for this black one if I can figure out where to get it from.

Check that you’re comfortable with the brake radar system as it seems to be the cause of many woes on here.

I reckon on 45 mpg on a run and 35 mpg around town.

I have experienced this type of system on a Volvo.
It used to do the odd false alarm in certain situations. During the test drive it did beep as I pulled up behind another vehicle at some lights. Maybe it thought I was going to fast. I'm not sure.

Can it be completely disabled??

Yes the 2017 uk spec 1.4t Vitara S does have stop start. And yes the brake support can be a bit oversensitive. Don't think you can disable it never tried. It's a great car so the positives outweighs the very small number of negatives.

Well I have commited to buying the one I viewed at my local dealer. It has few small marks on the back of the seats, and there was a small ding in a door which they have had removed already using paintless dent removal technique. It's got over average mileage but it's "only" £12500.

So worth a punt I feel.

Full service history, finished in black. Drives really well tbh. Actually quite sporty I felt.

Next query, are there any aftermarket modifications or add ons which people recommend?

Any good websites selling accessories?

Thanks again everyone

Oh that's a lovely one. Mine is red with the black mouldings. I have the stainless steel rear hatch protector and I fitted a central storage box/ armrest.

Otherwise pretty standard.

I also bought a second set of the anthracite alloys which I haven't used yet, and probably won't. They are in my garage. Ebay eh? It's dangerous isn't it.

eBay has been my downfall many a time. Lol

I will certainly be getting an armrest, is it easy to fit?? I think they do one with red stitching too don't they?

Looking into some roof bars. And maybe a few months down the line some better tyres. Probably CrossClimate by Michelin.

Some door sill protectors or protection film probably too.

From memory about 110 pounds a corner. Yes the transponder is a small box on the other end of the valve stem. They didnt remove them just separate the tyre from the wheel and pop a new tyre on there. I'm told the thing is to keep the wheel on the same corner that it came from , so the receiver is tuned to the correct transponder. I have heard the CrossClimates are very good indeed.

Are the Quadraxxers any good...in the wet very good. In mud snow haven't had the opportunity yet but the tread (one directional) looks pretty good. In the dry....tbh almost as good as the oem Contis . I think the Contis were great but summer tyres only so no good to me. When I go to work I do 70plus miles a day. Rain, snow whatever. After a bad winter a few years ago I insist on M+S tyres and the last snow we had my 4x4 Quashqai did very well getting up some hills that others couldn't. But I'm not a hot rod driver so they are entirely fine for me.

Modifications to come well I am intending to mildly clay the paintwork and apply a ceramic coating. Just finding the time is the issue for me. Never done this before but looks easy enough on YouTube.

All interesting stuff, thanks for sharing.

The CrossClimate are around £140 a corner I think so something like the Quadraxxers could be an option. However, do they come in the 215, 55, 17 size? Or did you get a different size?

Seen some Nokian all seasons that look reasonably priced also.

Thanks again.

Had a call today from the dealership. Telling me my Vitara will be ready for collection on Saturday morning. :). Quite excited now. Lol

Also told me they have fitted 4 new tyres. I did point out that the tyres although legal, didn't have a huge amount of life left in them. The salesman told me if they were found to be below a certain level when the car is checked during preparation, then they would replace them. And they have.

Only thing it needs is a new gearstick gaiter as there is a tear in the existing one. It has been ordered apparently but they are on back order. Will pop back to get it fitted when it arrives. It can't be a big job surely?

Been using the wife's Ignis all week, which is good fun, but will be glad to get back in my own car.

Will I collected the Vitara yesterday and so far, I'm pretty happy. I don't think the new tyres are the best in terms of performance but will see how they go. It also came with the previous owners dash cams still fitted. They seem better than my existing nextbase ones which I removed from my previous car so that was a bonus too.

So far my mod list consists of:

Sill protectors
Arm rest
Plastidip rear " Vitara s" and "Suzuki" lettering badges, chrome on grille and chrome side "vent" bits.
LED interior light.
LED boot light (mine doesn't seem automatic, you have to switch it on or off yourself, strange)
Mud flaps, maybe

I'm sure I will think of a few more.

For mudflaps, don't let Suzuki have your pants down on price, these are absolutely brilliant - don't let the cheap price deceive you. They are good quality, easy to fit and so much cleaner looking than the over priced Suzuki parts (see attached pics)

Don't forget to do the glove box and sun visor vanity mirror lights when upgrading the interior lights to LED (might want to do number plate lights and reverse light too)

A set of these are worth their money too

And these

And these

Maybe a set of these too

Some of these if you're feeling flush

And a set of these are a must IMO

👍🏻

Here's a query.

Can you have the trip computer reset the MPG readout after each trip? Or do you have to do this manually?

So, for example, have "Trip B" showing your long term average MPG.

And have "Trip A" showing the trip you are doing, average MPG? Then at the end of that trip reset for the next trip?

Can it be done?

Can you update your profile signature with the year and model. Makes life easier when you’re asking about boot lights etc.

When you guys start wondering why posts are disappearing, it's the forum police removing the unnecessarily argumentative posts that contribute nothing positive to the discussion,

#29 ·
I see you removed my post that actually gave him an answer to his question in post number 23.

Obviously you don't read the posts you remove,

In the models here, it is not possible to have it auto reset like you want, it has to be manually reset each time. I do not believe the European market variants are different in this regard.

I agree it would be a nice feature to have but the dash mpg isn't that accurate and should be taken with a grain of salt. Short trips will be even more inaccurate.
