Hi,

Last week, I successfully set up a Ford/Mazda VCM 2 scan tool with the SDT II software, and I wanted to share the process with all of you.

Firstly, I purchased this specific scan tool:

To make it work with the SDT II software, follow these steps:

1. Download the required software:
2. Installation Steps:
  • Step 1: Install SDT II
  • Step 2: Install Ford VCM 2 Manager
  • Step 3: Navigate to either C:\Program Files (x86)\Bosch\VTX-VCI\ or C:\Program Files\Bosch\VTX-VCI\
  • Step 4: Open the "VCI Software (Ford-VCM-II)" folder and copy its contents
  • Step 5: Paste the files from the Ford folder into the "VCI Software (6516-Suzuki)" folder
4. Firmware Update:
  • Ensure the VCM 2 has the correct firmware.
  • Step 1: Open the Ford VCM 2 Manager
  • Step 2: Remove the black plastic piece from the VCM 2 (on the USB side) to locate the button (below the SD card port).
    Image
  • Step 3: While pressing the button, insert the USB into the VCM 2. Keep pressing the button until a beep is heard (around 20-30 seconds). This puts the VCM 2 into recovery mode.
  • Step 4: If successful, select the VCM 2 in the manager and press the Recover button. This uploads the new firmware onto the VCM 2.

5. Completion:

That's it! Your Suzuki Scan Tool clone should now be operational.

If you encounter any issues or need assistance, feel free to leave a message.

For which models of Suzuki? And which years? I've seen similar to this being done but hit and miss as to what it works on.

Bi directional control?

I'm meaning being able to control idle, emissions stuff like purge valve, vent valve, set base timing,

Being able to lock doors, honk the horn etc while useful, is not something I have used.
What I do use a lot with my scan tools is the ability to turn the check engine light on to check it actually works.

I have a topdon topscan im trying out, that does a lot of things, using a phone app, and under $100.

Haven't tried programming keys with it yet but its an interesting tool for not much money.

Hi just wanted to check in and say this is still a working solution for a suzuki scan tool. Great job rikpeters28, well put together. Just ordered from the Netherlands Ali express link you provide and it worked great. Suzuki vitara 2018 can be added to the list of scanned and working suzuki's for this version of SDT 2 from the mega links. IT works bi bidirectionally and is worth a shot if anyone is looking for a cheap and effective way to scan your own car without having to use one of the big companies more expensive tools.

No idea how and when the token system it uses comes into play but as the immo and programming functions are greyed out in the SDT 2 software I don't think it comes up much. Found out those functions use separate dongles and equipment in the suzuki dealers. The ALi express add for the vci unit says it comes with 3 tokens and that you can't load anymore, would anyone know where they might be and how to spend or top them up?

As far as I know The Ford VCM II diagnostic tool is an original OEM scan tool that is compatible with the Ford IDS diagnostics application. When used with a PC, it is able to diagnose Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles with full dealer-level 16 pin OBD II diagnostic reprogramming capability.

This Ford VCM2 diagnostic tool comes pre-installed on a DELL D630 or Lenovo T410 Laptop, making it ready to use right out of the box. It provides full dealer diagnostic capabilities for most Ford 16 pin cars from 1996 to 2023, with the exception of 24v vehicles. Additionally, it is also compatible with some new 2023 vehicles, making it a versatile and comprehensive tool for diagnosing and reprogramming Ford vehicles.

This is just my opinion, but no, and I don't think you need it - unless you're trying to do something other than what is listed in that TSB.

The TSB shows you how to use the Suzuki SDS tool (P/n #09910-06521) to reprogram the ECU - the #09910-06521 tool is an interface box that connects to the USB port on a Windows laptop and allows you to use the laptop to reprogram the ECU via the OBD port.

I'm in the UK and have been trying to work out how to setup one of the clone tools to use as a Suzuki SDT2 unit. @rikpeters28 - thank so much for taking the time to post this up.

Does anyone that has got this working know if it can do the following on a UK spec 2015 Suzuki Swift Sport (ZC32S, M16A engine):

1. cycle the ABS pump for use when bleeding the brakes
2. Change the settings in the body control module to turn off the annoying alarm blips when locking and unlocking the car

I suspect the supported features are similar to the EU spec 2016 Vitara @rikpeters28 mentions so might take a chance and order from AliExpress.

Anyone know if you can run the software on a WIn 10/win 11 machine or does it need to be an old machine running Win 7?

Thanks, Chris

Just to add I have taken a chance and ordered the clone unit from Ali Express. Just need to find an old secondhand windows 7 laptop (which should be cheap!) and I'll give it a go. It may not work in which case I'll be out of pocket by about £100, but worth the chance, especially if it gives me most of the SDT 2 features.

Let me know, good luck brother! :)
It worked 😁!! Thanks again @rikpeters28 - your instructions were pretty much spot on.

I have finally been able to disable the annoying lock / unlock blip on my 2015 Swift Sport 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉.

I think the only difference I would note for others trying this following rikpeters28 instructions in the first post is in STEP 2 (step 1): During this step when the Suzuki SDT II software was installing, the core Bosch sub-install process needed me to plug the VCM2 dongle into the laptop via USB to complete. Once the SDT II install process is done you should unplug it from the laptop again.

Also note that with mine the firmware update step took a while (about 15- 20mins), so you need to be patient. Also note that I needed to have the VCM 2 unplugged from the USB port to the laptop BEFORE pressing and holding down the reset button. While holding the reset button, you then need to plug it into the laptop again, and the VCM2 then goes into the mode allowing you to follow the reset of the firmware update process as described in rikpeters28 instructions.

Also worth mentioning is that before doing any of the steps in rikpeters28's instructions above I did NOTHING to the VCM2 unit (no software installs or powering up) - I just used it straight out of the box.

I thought it would be interesting to open up the unit, and it seems to confirm it is one of the higher-quality clones (see pictures attached to this post) with the dual-level board and what looks like a decent-quality board and components.

This is the Ali Express link I used to purchase (I went for the one with the case and cables included) which was about 95GBP:

I bought a refurb laptop off amazon (an old Lenovo Thinkpad) for about 200GBP. You can probably get something to do the job a lot cheaper, but I wanted something to run Win 11 that had a decent battery and would last and this one has a 12 month warranty and came with a copy of Win 11 Pro.

Also worth mentioning is that all of the steps above worked on Windows 11 for me with no issues - note that the apps install into the 32bit Program Files area by default (Program Files (x86) on my machine).

Let me know if anyone wants to know the screens for controlling the lock / unlock blips using the SDT II software. It is under the keyless entry module configuration section.

All I need to work out now is how to access the ABS pump test / purge to push the old fluid through the ABS pump as part of a brake bleed. I think it is one of the ESP module tests, but I'm not 100% sure which one. There is one that checks all the brake lines and the brake system, and the help text indicates it is to be used after replacing any braking components...does anyone know if this is the one to use?

I have a Suzuki Baleno 2017, but I cannot change the language to Dutch. Would it be possible to do this with this diag tool and software?
You think so? I mean the language of my dashboard, not my media system. Cause these cars when bought in the Netherlands do have Dutch, mine is imported from Germany. And would it be possible to disable TPMS, cause i changed the tires but they dont have the TPMS sensors and I constantly get an "Service TPMS" warning on my dashboard and it does not go away.
If you have an android based smart phone you can use Google translate and the phone's camera to translate the dash menu settings - there may be a language setting in there, there is one on my Jimny, and I can switch from English to Dutch or German.

Does anyone know if it is possible to use this Suzuki Scan Tool clone to access cruise control radar sensor calibration C1618 on a Suzuki Swift SZ5 DUALJET MHEV CVT 2018-2022 model?

Similar to this video

And would this tool be suitable as well? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006439396162.html
Or does it have to be the one that OP linked above? https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/1005005923673907.html

There's about a £40 difference, so if they are both fit for purpose, would make sense to get the cheaper one.

If for any reason these tools are not fit for purpose for the newer Suzuki models, could anyone advise on an alternative tool that allows access to the required functionaly (radar calibration)?

#46 ·
Hi, i know radar calibration is possible voor my 2016 vitara, i think it should also be possible for the swift. As for the vcm thats 40 bucks cheaper it does have a different pcb so i cant really tell you if its gonna work or not.
Aliexpress does have a pretty solid return policy so you could always try.

If theres anything else i can help you with feel free to ask.

Hi
Does this work on JB74 Jimny?
Specifically wondering what else it can access. For example, change TPMS from KPA to PSI
To reset the TPMS threshold (I doubt it)
Or anything else which I can't do if buying something else like a LAUNCH X431 scanner?

Interesting topic otherwise, well done on this work

I do know you can program new tpms into the ecu with this tool. I dont think its possible to change to kPa instead of psi. Nor do i think you can change the threshold outside of the presets (comfort, economy etc)

For as far as i am aware this tool supports all suzuki cars, though the possible options and settings you can change might be different.

Thank you,

I might stick with a good ELM and SZviewer for now

My Aliexpress Delphi/Snooper doesn't access much in the jimny. Aware of the lack of CAN Bus in these Japanese cars. Does anyone know if any scanners are able to access systems in Suzuki, or it is just a waste of time. I considered spending €200+ on a decent scanner Kingbolean/Launch etc
