Just had the Zuke in for oil change, tire rotation and the rear brake service. Now I'm told the tires that were on the back will have to replaced. Replaced at 14,000 miles!!!

With that, any recommendations on a tire that will last...

The problem with your tires is that the alignment in the rear is "wrong" per say. The rear alignment specs on the 06, 07,and 08 need to readjusted. Go and get a 4 wheel alignment and have the rear set to these specs it should solve your rear tire wear problem.
rear left toe 16
rear right toe 16
rear total toe is 32
set rear camber in the middle
I know this might sound strange to you , but the person who's doing the alignment will understand the specs. I have set alot of GV's to this specs and had no tire problems afterwards. :)

I base these measurements on the fact that i am a suzuki tech for 5 years and these measurements are from people in suzuki in california. These measurements help the GV's that have the problem with the rear tires wearing out especially the rr. I have done these alignments using these measurements and the vehicle does not have the rear tire wear problems. :)

Rear Alignment

The spec's in my owners manual are:

Front Toe 0 With a tolerance of .08

Rear Toe .24 With a tolerance of .08

Front Camber 0 With 00 tolerance
Rear Camber -1 degree 15' With a tolerance of 30'

Front Caster 2 degrees 30'

Are these spec's incorrect ?

I do see that the specs you suggest of 16 and 16 would be within the tolerances.....but would it be better to ignor the specs in the owners manual and just go with the ones you suggest ?

The uneven tire wear in my case is minor, however, it is there, and yes it seems the RR tire is the worse..I have felt it since day one and my 08 is the same way.

Wanting to improve the ride as it "pounds" and it has to be the alignment because I rotate/balance every 7 K or less.....of course the Yokohama OEM tires probably have something to do with the pounding...especially bad in cold weather...like riding on square tires.

Going to replace with Kumho Solus KR-21 tires when the time comes....I am convinced that Yokohama is just crap...all 3 vehicles that came with Yokohama OEM tires had the same "pounding and uneven wear problems. I would not use Yokohama again if they were given to me free...just crap.

Our oem tires have over 30,000km on them, and have 6-7 /32'" tread left. That's about half. They get rotated as per the more frequent schedule. As a result, the tread wear on all of them is completely even and all the tires are the same.

So far the RA07 is quite good.....MUCH better than the stock Bridgestone Dueler tires both interms of grip as well as durability. The higher profile (and wider) 245/70/17 as opposed to the 225/60/17 factory tires also resulted in more comfortable ride.

I am also gaining in excess of 1in of lift with the new tires BUT need to use a heat gun to prevent the front wheel scraping the wheel wells while turning.

The grip and ride quality might be totally different due to the different climate.

Ciao!

32K! You can't complain. It's time for tires anyway. ;) Anything below 30% tread remaining and the tires won't shed water properly.

What tire pressure are you running? If you are not UP to the suggested pressure, I'd try that. It will lessen the outer edge tire wear.

No no, not complaining about needing tires at 32K.....they only have a 280 tread wear and it is time to replace them.

I run 32 PSI....check regulary...rotate at 6-7 thousand....wheel torque @ 75 pounds.

Getting alignment done and was wondering if I needed to change from the specs in the book; I suspect the outside tread wear is from alignment being off evn though I had the dealer check it before and he said it was ok...but then we all know how these dealers are.

Personally? I wouldn't waste the money on an alignment if I were in your situation. The wear sounds typical of an in spec aligned vehicle of this type and you run the chance of worsening the situation.

I finally replaced my original tires about a week ago. I got just less than 40K miles, like 39,9??. I think the replacements are Hankook, I got my son to do the shopping for me. They have a 680 tread wear rating versus 2?? for the OEM. I did not get aligned but will continue to rotate. Mine were not bald, were not even completely on the wear indicators but with winter coming I decided it was time.

Thanks for all the replies.

I think I am going to go with Kuhmo Road Venture KL 51 tires and skip the alignment.

Yes,winter weather is on my mind as well.

Wish Fuzion tires were available for the GV...I had gotten 90,000 miles out of them on my Chevy Cobalt and they were about 1/2 the price of the Kuhmo's.

I know one thing ..... I will never again have Yokohama tires....they just ride too rough.
