After almost 2 hours the Suzuki garage had the unit updated and Android Auto worked straight away. Previously when my phone was connected via USB the phone would display a notification saying Android auto connected but the infotainment unit did nothing. Now it shows the Android auto logo as soon as my phone is plugged in. It's a little laggy but better than nothing! The garage (Roadworthy, Bristol, UK) didn't charge me anything and even vacuumed out the footwells. Very impressed with their help and service.

Sounds like you're sorted. It's a little laggy on mine too. The nature of the beast. Have they been successful in you having a wireless connection or do you still have to use a USB cable - as mine has to and many others too.

Still got to use a cable. It seems to get slower the more tasks you give it. I typically use maps while streaming YouTube music and using assistant to send messages but all that working at the same time creates big lag. It makes using the assistant almost impossible. In my previous car which had an aftermarket Kenwood head unit Android auto worked without a hitch.

You shouldn't be using an 18xx firmware on a unit for a region that uses 17xx versions - you're gonna end up having a bad time if you try a force update with the wrong firmware.

Unfortunately, Google will need to be your friend in the search for 1780 firmware (maybe try the Bosch SLDA portal)

Thanks. The Bosch site only provides uncompiled source. Google has not given me any joy either.

Firmware update video

I just wanted to add my thanks to Ticking_fox - I just did this for my 2018 Vitara using an SD card and it all went through eventually. Slightly different percentages and pauses but it was helpful to have reassuring advice from that post especially when it all just went black at the end. I have no idea what the differences are from 1850 but I least I know I have the latest, AA was already working (cabled) but it was very temperamental with the cables so maybe that will have improved, time will tell.

To do the infotainment update see the steps below (c/o vivavitara)

(Please note this is at your own discretion, in pretty much all instances everything goes as expected, but there is always a small but inherent risk involved when flashing firmware on any device)

Important note:
Firmwares that are versions 8xx or 18xx are for EU region only.
Ones that are 7xx need updating with the non EU version starting 17xx.

Don't use a USB 3 memory stick as some people have had issues using them

Read the instructions fully and carefully beforehand.

Follow the instructions fully.

Do not interrupt the update once it starts!!!!!!!!!!

Be patient, it takes a quite a while - I updated mine from 850 to 1880 and it took about 35mins including the heart stopping bit where it gets so far and then appears to restart (I think it was doing an incremental update as the versions I went from to the newest one linked below are so far apart)

Whats needed?
• The files with the upgrade (unzipped and placed on usb stick, not in a folder, I think there are 14 files all-in)

Download 1880 update from here:
1.91 GB file on MEGA

• USB-stick formatted for FAT32-(min 4GB)

1 Unzip and store the files on the empty USB-stick

2 Take out the SD-card with the map-data from the SLDA-unit.

3 Turn ignition on to ACC (for cars with the Key-less option, press the Start button once without holding down the brake pedal and let the SLDA-unit boot

4 Insert the USB-stick.

5 push and hold the settings button for 10 seconds & then press ”Software version” (update may be automatically detected on usb stick after a min or 2 without needing to go into the settings software screen)

6 The update starts (you see this as the screen turns grey with some flickering for a couple of seconds), and then the upgrade screen is shown. In this screen there is a progress bar, which after a quite a while (10mins or more) eventually gets up to approx. 76% or thereabouts, and then turns black for a couple of MINUTES (it feels like that at least) and then the update process starts again from 0%, don’t have a heart attack, this is normal

7 When the update is done, it tells you so with the text
”Please remove USB Stick” in the update-screen. Do what it tells you, remove the USB-stick

8 Now the system boots up (you see the Suzuki logo) this is going to happen two times. In my case the system shut down after the second boot up. I waited for 2-3 min, and then with fear in my heart I pushed the “Start button” it WORKED!

9 you may need to reset your radio stations and the clock

10 Finally shut down the ignition and put back the SD-card with the map data
Put the usb stick in first, then start the ignition. So swap the order of steps 3 and 4. That's what did it for me. I was about to try the SD card method but it's working now. Sat in my 2017 s-cross typing this! And to add my thanks to ticking_fox. Great post.

• Clé USB formatée pour FAT32-(min 4 Go)

Thank you for sharing

JI installed it on my jimny 2019 and it works perfectly, with a 4gb SD card, too bad the version for Android Auto Wireless does not yet exist.

I too have joined this forum just to say thank you to Ticking_Fox for posting the instructions for updating the firmware for the Suzuki infotainment system. I am now able to use Android Auto. I recently bought a 2017 Sx4 SZ-T and had given up on getting my mobile phone to connect via the smart phone connection. For some reason it didn't take 3ms to update the firmware. For me it took 30-40ms. But very happy I got there in the end.
Thank you.

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2019/20 Vitara that won't recognise my android phone (initiate android auto) because the phone is too new?!

I followed the instructions on this forum and discovered that my current software version is 1770, and with the positive reviews above attempted to update to 1780 & 1880 and neither will automatically start installing the update. I selected 'Software Version' and wait patiently 4-5mins and nothing happens.

I'm almost at the point where I cut my losses and purchase a new head unit with a reputable name.

This forum is the closest I've come to finding a solution to this issue. Any further guidance would be most appreciated, or your recommendation on a new head unit brand.

Cheers,
Shell

There will be other people along to assist....
Things to check...
What part of the world are you in? You maybe trying to update the software with a non geographical correct file. That is you cannot update the SW in a European model with a USA update and vice versa.
Depending in where you are I THINK you are trying to update using an incorrect file. I could be wrong.
See if you can have a look back through this thread and see what I mean.
If I remember correctly you MAY have to allow access to your phone from the headunit.
Would be very surprised if the unit is too new as you say.
It does take a few minutes......mine took 20 minutes....and sat doing nowt for about 8, or 9, minutes if I remember correctly. Be patient!!
Check the cable you are using is a good cable and not a £2 cheapo. Some cabls will just not work.
It only works with a cable connection. No wireless connectivity as far as I am aware.

Let us know what the status is.

Hiya.
Mm....I would slow down a bit.
There is no reason it should not work. I will try and figure out what the correct update is.
Can you have a look and see what the actual version is on your unit. That would help. Post it on here when you get it.
Also maybe worth a trip to the Suzuki dealer and asking them to do the update. Many, here in the UK, have had success this way. They should at least be able to source the correct update for you. Give them a memory stick or a memory card and ask them to stick it on there.
