if you want something that doesn't cheat on emissions, keep the Suzuki ......wind noise is subjective, Some days my GV is loud, other days its not. Depends on weather and temp.
VW is a totally different type of vehicle, and you can't compare it to the 'zuke, except the 'zuke is cheaper and more fun.

 

I agree, I think noise is subjective. Last weekend, we did our first proper long distance journey, a 300 mile round trip almost all motorway/dual carriageway and we were not once upset by road noise.

We are running tyre pressures, front, 41psi, rears, 38psi, economy mode as per the label in the door jamb. I'm fortunate enough to own a pretty accurate tyre pressure gauge and the readings on the car TPMS match exactly those on my gauge.

As for emissions, we got a steady 47mpg throughout the entire journey, 70mph on cruise control for as much of the each way journey as was possible. I noticed that on the couple of occasions I had to reduce speed to 50mph because of average speed roadworks, the economy rose to 50mpg. Overall, I was impressed with the mpg.

I won't be trying to dampen any noise because it just isn't an issue for us personally.

 

All I am looking at doing is improving a very good car, many people customize there cars I would like to make it quieter, I can except the cheap trim as a automotive trim engineer myself understand cost cutting, the noise I here is mainly tyre noise,even the brake pads rubbing on the discs ,very rarely if I hit a smoother road surface the noise goes,

 

Tyres do play a big part in noise, mine are noiser than the factory fitted ones, but i would rather have the grip and handling than the quiet and slippery feeling the original dunlop things had.

there again, its all relative to what you are prepared to accept.

 

I must take back my comments about the sound proofing and road noise, having now done 8k miles the tyres have now bedded in and the cabin noise compares with more prestigious cars ,definitely recommend one .

 

I open the panoramic roof, that drowns out the other noises.

 

No complaints about any noise, road or wind, on my 1.4 Boosterjet. In fact it’s so quiet, I can hear a really minor vibration that happens when I put my glasses case in the door pocket.

Interesting point about new tyres - I had similar issues on my BMW X5 until I’d covered around 2k miles. I reckon they must need the early miles to work the compound and make them more pliable.

 

I did sound deadening of the front doors in my Vitara just recently. It helped to block some of the road noise. If anyone's interested, I used three mats of Vibrofiltr and one SilentCoat Sound Absorber mat split between two doors. I did this for the new front speakers but like I said, it also helps to filter some incoming noise. I considering doing the same for back doors.

Before that I bought new tires, that made a surprisingly big difference too! The old ones were pretty toast and they made much more noise.

If you don't go seriously off-roading you should try the Michelin Primacy 4, or even the Michelin Pilot Sport 4, both of which are rated as the quietest tyres/tires money can buy. They also offer great roadholding, braking, wet weather grip, and long wear.

Another thing that can help is choosing tyres with low noise rating (68dB) as per the EU Tyre Rating label.

There's a great video on soundproofing Vitara on YT (unfortunately I cannot add links in first post).
I did it myself using 2,3mm butyl mat and 7 and 13 mm foam on floor, trunk, doors. I left roof unchanged, as I have panoramic window. I also added some seals below doors and on upper part of trunk lid. The effect is impressive:
0km/h - 39,3dB (no change)
50km/h - 59,6 -> 56 dB
80km/h - 65,4 -> 62 dB
100km/h - 68,5 -> 64 dB
120km/h - 71,3 -> 66 dB
140km/h - 73,8 -> 68 dB
I have winter tyres now, which are a bit loud. It will be a bit quieter when I change them. Now you can compare Vitara to BMW X1, X3, Audi Q3. Audi Q5 is still a bit quieter, but not much.

I have recently bought a Suzuki Vitara 1.4 booster jet petrol. The drive is amazing but the wind and road noise is awful and giving me a migraine. Did you sort this problem for your car??

I have the same problem and its loud. I bough a nd fitted the original windshields from Suzuki and it did not help. Suzuki has no answers for this....can you imagine.

As others suggested, I would start with the new tires. Recently I also purchased Michelin Primacy 4+ and I am very pleased with the result - there is less noise and the ride quality is noticeably better than OEM factory set.

 

One of the reasons I switched to Suzuki was because I get more feedback from the outside world.
As a former motorcyclist l personally seem to need that more basic seat-of-the-pants feedback experience, feeling the differing road surfaces and weather conditions.
I had an MB and never got used to the sense of total isolation from the outside world.

 

I did doors and trunk, well worth it.
