You can brick the fob or the immobiliser if you get it wrong. The sequence works on SOME models, depending on market they were designed for and the firmware installed.

It might be easier heading to a Suzuki dealer and get them to program all keys in your possession to the car. Its always possible the fob is dead, at least with the scan tool they can test that.
Using the procedure above (if its works on your one) you run the real risk of overwriting the working one and having nothing working.

Buttons are purely door lock / unlock. Rfid chip in the key is what determines whether it will start or not. If both keys start the car and work in the door lock, then I'd live with it.


About $200 here for a Virgin genuine key fob unit, cut and programmed from a local zuke dealer

 

2013GV, thanks again for your wise and clear advice. Nearest Zook dealer here is at Port Macquarie about 100k south of here. From what you have told me, it can all wait until next time we are down that way.
I live in a small (but overloaded at the moment) town, where locking your car is not common, and unnecessary (although it IS the law).

Id call the dealer and get a price off them to program the key. I'm suspicious that the fob might be faulty as they don't usually just lose 1 thats already coded. ( immobiliser can ho,d up to 4 keys as can the door controller)
Just make sure you take all the fobs and keys with you as the scan tool wipes every stored key and re loads them

 

All good and thanks. For now, I'll live with the one 'live' key and the 'dead' key as a spare!

I followed these instructions carefully several times. I was unable to program the remote. I reread various advice. I found a post where someone was able to reprogram their key only when they went through the steps very fast, about five seconds for all of them combined. I followed that advice and was finally able to reprogram the remote.

 

Nope. Tells you to take it to a dealer so that more money can be wasted for a 60 sec job that you can do yourself.

 

Reprogramming keys takes about 20 minutes on the 3G if you have the correct scan tool. Reprogramming the door opening buttons takes a couple of minutes.

Remote Programing Procedure (Program Mode) You have 25 seconds or less to do this. Had to repeat about 3 times to get into programing mode. If you have to repeat, pull key out and open drivers door just like it is your first time.

Close doors Unlocked.

Key in ignition. Lock/unlock 3 times = 7 pushes leaving in lock position. Remove key and insert 4 times, leave key in ignition.

Turn key to start position, wait 3-4 seconds, start engine, run for 5-10 seconds, shut ignition off. Will go from lock to unlock automatically.

Press lock button and then unlock button on remote, door locks will cycle. Program all remotes when in programing mode. One right after another, door locks will cycle after each one programed. Turn key off or start to end programming mode. Test all remotes one at a time in vehicle with all other remotes away from the vehicle, lock, unlock and start vehicle.

 

You can code a blank remote to open the car with the vehicle. The engine immobiliser code requires reprogramming by dealer scan tool. Local phone repair/key maker guy offered to do it for me, but still unsure how he can do it though, said he could copy the code somehow.

There are essentially two types of key, pre-programmed keys, and programmable blank keys ...

- with the pre-programmed keys, the immobilizer has to be programmed to work with the key.
- with the programmable blank key, if you have an existing key that the immobilizer has been programmed to accept, the existing key can be copied to the programmable blank key.

If you do NOT have an existing key that the immobilizer has been programmed to accept, then the programmable blank key is not an option.

Thanks fordem I think it’s been said but just for 100% sure, you can’t program the immobiliser on a blank key with the car and a coded key alone?

 

Some higher end scanners have an "ALL KEYS LOST" function.

They can program the IMMO system with no prior keys, also delete all non available keys..

You can't program the immobilizer to a coded key with the car alone.
