Radio turns itself off and on

Hi all, I have a 07 GV 1600 and I have an intermittent problem with the radio. Turn on radio and after about 40 seconds it shuts off and then on again this then keeps going off and on about every 10 seconds. Its not coded. So far I have removed radio cleaned connector, bought a replacement radio, removed cleaned and replaced fuse. “this worked for about a week then started playing up again. I then took it to a garage and they rewired the live feed, this lasted 24 hours and I am back to having a radio that shuts itself off and on again.

Any pointers would be gratefully received.

Read it again, he's already replaced the radio...

Most radios require two +12V power feeds (one always live and the other fed from the ACC position on the ignition switch, along with a ground to work, if any one of the three is lost, it will shutdown - make sure that there is a ground connection and that you're not depending on the antenna cable to ground the radio.

You can for testing purposes, feed both +12V feeds from the same source, it might help you pinpoint which one is being lost, another approach would be to determine if the radio loses it's station settings, or the clock, assuming the radio has a clock, most do nowadays, if that is happening it would suggest the always live feed is the one that's being lost, but, the reality of the situation is that you'll have to find someone who will work with you (assuming you're not doing it yourself) to track the problem down, it's not something that can be done from a distance.

I know that is why I said to, "Get a new radio ... lol."
It was said in humor
And to keep thread near top of active list

There is two power feeds. One is for keeping memory alive
The other is for normal operation of the radio.
If the keep memory (presets and/or clock function) alive power feed is disconnected
then the radio will keep working by being powered up by the second power line.
Power to the radio and the ground is all that is needed for normal operation of the radio.
Keep memory alive (hot all the time) is not necessary for normal operations of the radio.
And of course if the power is turned off then radio is shut down.
Obvious it needs a ground or there is no complete circuit.

His intermittent on and off can be caused by an intermittent power source on the second power feed (accessory feed).
Or he has got a bad second radio. Doubtful but have seen it before.

Yes, there are some radios that require both power feeds for the radio to operate.
It depends on how the radio works
Some require the hot all the time to power the unit and the switched power to turn on the unit
Others require only the switched power feed to operate the unit.

So it seems that if any of the three connections is intermittent then the radio can be turned on and off ... depending upon the radio.

A bad ground is so often overlooked but can be a reoccurring nightmare
often returning to bite you.

Have you noted exactly what were the conditions when the radio blinks off, such as bumpy road conditions? Were you turning on any other devices/controls, lights, signals, changing stations, using cellphone?
