CT12 Dyno Results

Finally got this little badass setup tuned, and I'm quite happy with the results.

Despite the turbo being undersized for 2.0L we managed to squeeze out:

214 whp / 207 lb ft.

Through progressive boost tuning I was able to keep the torque nice and stable until about 5500 rpm where the tiny turbine starts to choke its life away haha. We were able to verify this by testing exhaust back-pressure pre-turbo during the dyno runs with a boost gauge. This is about as far as we dare to go on this turbo, and the numbers make perfect sense. Two of these turbos on a Supra 3.0L can crank out about 450whp max, so we are pretty much at the limit.

All in all not a huge amount of power, but this is quite fun to drive on the streets because the power is always there from almost any RPM.

Stay tuned for dyno video :)

nice results. you gotta love that quick spool up. a decent jump in HP. do you remember what your cars HP was before the turbo?

Do you mean stock? If thats what you are referring to, my stock dyno came in around 107whp with full exhaust and open throttle body. Granted that was with the turbo housing and manifold still in place, just no turbo in it lol. If I had a proper NA header, it probably would have been more like 115whp or so.

Dyno session video!

As promised, here are some dyno clips:

that looks like fun! good power curve, too... bet it'd eat a GTI, lol...

i was looking through your build again and man i need to get moving on mine. i have all the parts just a tad bit short on the money part :) tuning can get expensive thats the main issue. i cant wait to have everything put together. i just found and picked up a nice piece for the car. took a long time to hunt one down but i just got an official "Suzuki Sport Racing" steering wheel. since there is no more suzuki racing division, they sold everything to "MONSTER SPORT", there wont be any more made. been trying to find one for a couple of years now and finally lucked into one on ebay of all places!

Yes tuning is what makes or breaks the setup. You can spend $20k on parts and if the tuner doesn't know what they're doing it will run like a bag of shit or even worse be damaged.

Are you actually planning to go turbo?

yeah i have a great shop and tuner. just not all the money yet. im really not sure about going turbo in the future. right now i have the independent throttle body set up im trying to get put on should be a nice bump in power. most of the cars that come to the shop are turbo builds, im getting to like them more and more. i can always go turbo with the itb's, that would be nice :) unfortunately moneys just a little tight right now so the build goes little by little.

Amazing work you've had done man, looks outstanding. I've driven a few IS's and they can be a fun car to drive when done right.

Now I am curious about one thing here, as you mentioned something about your tranny now being rare and up there in miles. When you bought your lacetti was it an AT transmission? Or did you get the 5 speed w/ it and just do a swap?

I'm curious because I'm seriously considering converting my AT into a MT, and it would be nice to know that its been done before, and done succesfully. Of course this is something that used to be much simpler years ago.. (from what I've heard anyway)

Thanks man, if you are interested to see more about the IS, you can check out the build here:

As for the transmission, I say its rare because I have the F28 Getrag 6 speed transmission. These transmissions were never sold in North America, only over seas in Europe, Japan, etc. And on top of that they were only sold in the 1992-1997 Opel Calibra's mated to the 2.0 turbo C20LET motor. So having said all that, my point was if I start making alot of power (>400whp) and I break the transmission, finding replacements is getting harder and harder. Although since the time of writing my initial concerns, I have secured a spare F28 and had it shipped over from the UK..... just in case something happens to mine :)

So I just realized I didn't even answer your question... Mine was originally 5spd MT. I only did the whole 6spd swap because I broke 2 of the stock 5 speeds... they are only reliable until about 200 lb ft of torque :< The 6spd is much stronger.

now, does the F28 bolt to the stock u20sed engine, or are you running a c20let?

the f28 bolts right up but you need custom mounts made. you also need to get a kit to convert it from four wheel drive to two wheel drive. the main problem with the trans is that its old and replacement parts are becoming VERY hard to find.

Correct....... that's why I'm hoarding a spare one ;)

Yeah, that's a very smart move. I had a link of a company that was making parts for then a while back but I lost it when my PC crashed. Who knows if they're even doing it anymore. Eventually is like to figure out some kind of transmission solution. There are links about ones that bolt up, and there's a ton, but not much info on what needs to be done to install them. If new axels or hubs need to be made. I hear the m3 is a good one also the one in the cruze turbo.

Exist3nce, I'm guessing the F28 is beefier than the sonic/cruze 6. Btw, what's that things model number?

Cruze 6 speed = F40

Well its debatable which one is stronger... People are making decent power with that transmission as well. Yet the F28 is a old timer with proven results. When I did my conversion there was no 6speed available that bolted to the block here in north America, so that's why I went with the F28.

Also to consider, a badly abused F40 could be weaker and handle less power than a well maintained F28. But a brand new (or low mileage) F40 may very well last longer than an old F28.
