Hello all,
I'm after a bit of advice as I'm considering getting a pre 2019 Vitara as a 2nd car, to be used mainly by my other half. I'm an ex mechanic and do the vast majority of work on our cars myself other than work which isn't possible on axle stands, but I have no familiarity with Suzuki vehicles.
It will definitely be an allgrip model but I'm deliberating over which engine. My main desires in order of importance are reliability, ease and low cost of repairs, and decent MPG. Peformance is far less of a concern.
Without knowing the engines my gut instinct is that the 1.6 petrol will be the most reliable and cheapest/easiest to fix as its the simplest engine being a petrol and naturally aspirated.
Looking at reported real world MPG figures the 1.6 petrol seems to do just as well if not better than the 1.4 booster jet.
The diesel is tempting based on the excellent MPG but there's so much more to go wrong, turbos, injectors, DMF, DPF etc.
I'd appreciate and information on the reliability of all these engines (and gearboxes). Any common faults, or things which don't last well on any of them?
How gutless is the 1.6? bearable or awful?
Any thoughts on MPG between 1.4 and 1.6? I've see high 40's mentioned by people for mixed driving.
Thanks in advance! all info welcome
Andy
