right my vitara is a 2002 one with the rhz engine 2 liter turbo diesel now for a few weeks noticed oil dripping of the gear box so today finaly got around to looking at it now looking at the top of the engine in between rocker cover and intercooler there is what looks like a pipe at the very back soaked with oil what is it to get to it for a better look i have to take the intercooler of too looks also like there is a pipe missing of it too but very hard to see

There is a breather hose on the top of the valve cover and a vacuum pump (for the brakes) at the back of the cylinder head - driven off the camshaft. I would suggest removing the IC to get a better view is the most sensible approach.

now im not too clued up but the only thing in this part of the system that handles oil is the turbo do you think it could be the turbo on its way out car has 70,000 miles had new high pressure pump and maf sencor last year was serviced with correct oil and visc
oil is dripping out the back of that onto the back of the engine and onto the gear box

So was the intercooler soaked with oil also?

Other than the turbo, the oil could be coming from the crankcase ventilation system, which enters the system before the turbo.

Are you having to add oil?

I wouldn't panic yet, it's normal to have some oil in the intake (on a diesel) and (due to the 1 bar pressure after the turbo) it could be just a leak at or near the "throttle" valve, which is used just to stop the engine smoothly (edit: and EGR assist.) If your turbo was failing (which I doubt) it will deteriorate quickly and there will be smoke out the exhaust.

the intercooler had a slight staining inside of oil could the oil be down to towing a good 1 1/2 ton on the back of it just latley it seams slightly sluggish towing as before it used to fly every where . im not to worried just concerned as the oil leak will more than likley cause it to fail the mot

Wow, the MOT check won't allow a minor oil leak? That's a bit strict!

Turbo's tend to fail in a spectacular way, so I think there is nothing actually wrong other than a leaky seal either end of the throttle valve or at the shaft seals. Try to identify the leak source a bit closer if you can, and check tightness of clamps, etc.

it is quite a drip when it gets going we had a peugeot 307 same engine multiple oil leaks and they refused to even let it in the test center. if the jeep was on the mainland of the uk would be no problem but because there goverment run over here there very strict and hard on the cars ie over hear your lucky if you see many cars over 10 years old yet the mainland is litterd with them
i think what happens is the oil pools on top of the gear box but will get it steamed cleaned but only the back of the engine block as not to get the electrics wet

hi it turned out that the turbos on most diesels gather oil in the intercooler over time after steam cleening mine it was ok i cant tell you any more on that as i sold it not long after.

it was the butterfly valve that was allowing the oil to weap past

Hi guys am new here and want to tell you
One thing you should have mentioned was mileage . I am guessing there are a bunch being 14 years old . That being said oil pressure issues can also be attributed to too much clearance in the crank and rod bearings which means the motor should be overhauled . You could spend money on replacing the oil pump but more than likely it would be a band aid on a gun shot wound .

2.0 RHZ suzuki gv oil leak

Hi, i decided to do nothing, just every 6 months clean the engine, cause other than that the vehicule works fine, mine has 78,000 km, it doesnt consume oil, turbo working fine, so theres no need to concern unless you having other problems like oil consumption, or anything else,
