I bought a used 2018 Vitara (UK style with the steering wheel on the right) about a month ago now and the front clip that held the USB port in place was missing so the port wouldn't sit in place properly. Because of that it was a couple of weeks before I actually tried to connect my phone to the USB, turns out the port itself is a dud.

I have bought a replacement cable (part number; 39105-57L10 ) which came today, but now the problem is that I can't reach far enough into the area behind the panel to unplug the old assembly and plug in the new one.

Are there any guides that go over how to remove the panel to make it easier to swap the old port for the new? All I've been able to find are guides on how to remove the dash panels and the door panels.

Ah, many thanks for that. I didn't think to just unplug the front usb bit and plug the old wire into the new one. Worked like a charm

 

Using a short sacrificial cable should be standard practice on ANY device that you might use more than once a year. Especially ports in cars, on computers, and laptops, and any other device that uses a charging cable. A $5 cable is much simpler and quicker than all the hassle you have to go through to replace any factory socket. Unfortunately it is a bit tricky to do this on things like phones so using a wireless charger is ideal here.
