Our new Vitara SZ-T auto is here. Looking very shiny right now, was lovely to drive home! We didn't get the dealer to put their expensive protection on, so I guess we will want to put on some wax ourselves to protect it. This is my first ever brand new car, so need advice. The dealer recommended Carnauba wax but there are loads of different types. I found Autoglym Ceramic protection and/or wax, or Turtle wax. I guess I should wash it first? Or rinse? Should I do it straight away?

Nice colour but you’re right in wanting to protect it early, particularly as it’s red and looks like you’ll keep it on the drive. Some manufacturer‘s red paint (yes you Ford) can dull with prolonged exposure to UV.
The best advice is to try and find a local detailer that can put on a decent ceramic coating at probably half the price of the dealer costs. Don‘t try and apply the specialist coatings as you really need to know what you’re doing as it’s easy to mess up - I had a coating applied by a BMW dealer that had to be taken off and it was a real pain.
If you don’t want to use a detailer, then check out somewhere like auto express for their best buys and check the reviews for a no nonsense DIY solution. They normally pick an autoglym product but I’ve had great success with Turtle wax clean and shine followed by their sealant. Easy to apply and safe on plastic trim as long as you wipe it off with a damp cloth.
I also recommend Wax it Wet every few months. It adds a silicon wax which gives a decent shine but makes it easy to rinse of bird muck etc.
Obviously Turtle Wax or AutoGlym are just consumer products so won’t be as good as the pro stuff like G3 but applied often and little they’ll see you right.

Just dont ever use a cutting paste on it. Good quality wash and wax is all ive ever used, car still looks like new 6 years later.

and then for interim protection top up
GYEON - Q²M WetCoat
Decent wash mit, always use the two bucket method when washing (one for water shampoo mix and another with just water to keep washing the mit off so you don't end up with grit in the shampoo bucket - a grit guard in the buckets is a good idea too)

There’s just been an updated test published on Autoexpress. A very interesting solution applied with a snow foam lance - think I’ll give it a try.
I negotiated a free ceramic coating on my recent purchase. Having washed car with Autoglym ph neutral shampoo seems coating applied okay. Water beads nicely. Obtained can of AutoSmart cherry wax polish. Doesn't leave white on black trim. Easy on easy off. Turtle Wax do Canuba in tub if you want to go traditional.
we own a very sucessful detailing business... Use this on it. Cheap, lasts for months, very easy to get off and gives an excellant shine. Do not spend your $ on a ceramic coating. Technicians choice TEC582. End of story. Trust me
Doesn’t look to be available on Amazon here in the UK unfortunately and it’s around GBP90 to buy via an importer.
