Just a suggestion - open the hood and check it - find the battery and see which post is connected to the chassis.

It's mostly likely going to be the negative, I don't think there's been a positive ground vehicle built in the last three or four decades.

 

What year and model do you have?

Unless you have a very old European car you should have a negative ground.

Well, guess I should answer the other half of your question as to whether or not it is 12volts?

I'm not sure but it should be, I wouldn't think that Suzuki would go to all of the trouble of making a radio run on 5 volts and then have to make a voltage converter to make it run on a 12 volt system, but anyway I'll check the schematic when I get home tonight.
