hi I have a Canada 1992 4dr 1.6 (16v) 5 gear side kick . the clutch is stiff and seem hard to push for such a small unit . there is some chatter in it and if the rpm is up even a little 1st and reverse are hard to engage classic symptoms . the clutch cable was changed before I got it .I can here some creaking when I push the peddle (when not running) . the question I have is when I get the trans out , there is a cross shaft for the release brg is there a problem area here, ie worn bushings ,bent linkage that I should have a close look at . the peddle seems to have full stroke but dose not feel right or work right thanks

Check the fire wall for stress cracks... Philip

theres a bunch of posts on clutches, seems to me many are related to wrong cable being installed, installed improperly, stress cracks, etc. Do search for some you'd be surprised.

Pbblaster it work it by hand and pb it again till you see it dripping on the ground under the trans. My 92 5 speed did that to me, just got dry. It had like 260k miles on it when it died. Original cable as far as i know. Had 123k miles when i bought it. I put a clutch in it at 132k miles. Someone rode the clutch and f'ed up the pressure plate.

Check the cable routing, any tight bends will cause problems. It doesn't take long to disconnect it at the gearbox end and check that it moves freely. When you refit it make sure that there is 1mm (40 thou) of freeplay.
