don't worry, the rev limiter will save you, those motors love revving anyway. 5000 is next to nothing, find a nice straight road, mash the pedal against the firewall and let it sort itself out, they will usually upshift close to redline anyway, especially in sport mode.

 

I reckon I’m too easy on my cars. I drive them fast but tend not to floor it, partly because my ankle prevents it and I’ve got short legs !

 

you need to use your toes, the pedal pressure isn't that great hehehe

or a notch closer with the seat? don't worry, these engines run slow for economy, but the real power is up over 4k in revs. Don't be scared to give it a kick if you need to get it moving.

 

I normally drive like Mr McGoo, close up to the screen, but on the Vitara I can’t get the seat low enough so have to move it back. I’ve got a titanium ankle so the articulation isn’t as much as I’d like and I like to have things set up for braking :mellow:

Anyway, I was kind of forgetting that Suzuki primarily made engines and that a company that can shove out a Hyabusi can probably make a 1.4 turbo reasonably well too.

Come the summer, the MX-5 will regularly see 5,000 rpm
