1. G.V 1.6l 2004.
2. Tester (OBD2) is showing EGR (code 0400).

3. Additional symptom:Fast accelaration couses an strangulated effect(a very short delay), as an intermmidiate reaction.

3. What are the common problems that cause this code ? What should be done for fixing? (pls' list them fr. the easyest to the mor dificult)

4. Where's the sensor's location? the connector?
What are the right voltages ? in idle? medium/high motor speed?

The easiest solution to start with is to clean the EGR valve with carb cleaner. You can remove the valve from the car - it is a diaphragm that rides on a spindle, - it does not work while the car is idling or at wide open throttle, but if you are accelerating from a stop, the diaphragm needs to move freely. If it doesn't, the car 'bogs' until the diapgram moves.
Remove the valve from the car, and clean it with carb cleaner so that all orifices are clear, and so the diaphragm, which pushed forward (with your finger) snaps back strongly to the closed position, and moves freely on the spindle. While the EGR valve is off the car, you can also ream out the exhaust and intake ports that you see, spraying carb cleaner in those ports as well. And you can also try a couple of bottles of Techron, if they have that where you are, which will clean the inside of these ports as well.
If you don't know where the EGR is, post, and we can show you.

2004 model will have a stepper motor operated EGR, it has six wires going to two coils arranged as two centre tapped pairs. You should check the resistance of those as well as cleaning out the passageways all the way through to the exhaust manifold. The stepper motor assembly comes apart when you remove the four small screws, there is a spring in there that should close the valve, if the shaft gets too coked up then the valve can stick

EGR parts location

1. Its 16V.

2. So far, Ihave all the info for fixing it (lets pray),but ,I don't know where to reach the parts/
For having the right oriantation I attac. a photo, taken fr. the driver's side.

My assumtion is that the iron tube, which comes out under the Manifold cover (the one which is to the left side of the hareness coming fr the Cathalitic-Converter sensor' its name ???),and bents towards rhe Block, where it's attached to a Gasket, as to do with the EGR/

So,pls',in regard to this tube, let me know where are the EGR parts: Valve,Stepper motor,Exhoust intake ports,....

Thanks-Benny

Go to "Search", "Advanced Search", type in "EGR Valve", and confine your search to THIS section called Suzuki Sidekick, Escudo, Vitara & Geo Tracker Forum (1989-1998)) and PRESTO!

Everything that you'd ever want to know about EGR's for your engine. ;)

Your EGR will be different than the EGR's that are listed on this side of the forum, if you have the one with the stepper driven valve. You may want to search for EGR info on the Grand Vitara link on the left. If you are testing the resistance of the coils, you do this with each coil tested to its neighbor, and I believe the resistance should be about 20 ohms for each reading. You can also disconnect the EGR from the intake (but leave electrical connector still connected) and with key on, then off, then on, etc. you will see the valve move. You can also try to carefully clean the valve, if it is not moving as it should. A really expensive item to replace (new generation).

There is some info on the EGR valve here:

EGR

ignore the stuff from the heading 'interface' onwards, that refers to an ECU that I designed for my Vit a good few years ago.
