Hey

Is there an X 90 group in here? I'm planning to buy a 1997 X 90 2WD auto with 21,700 miles on it. Only thing not original is the battery. Very clean. Is that a deal for $3,000? What problems should I look for? I have Samurais, Tracker, Metro Ragtop so familiar with Zuks.

They are AWESOME vehicles.

I have a '96 that I bought new.

Perfect beach toy.

That's DEFINITELY a deal at $3,000.

Sorry that I was so slow on the delivery.

Without a MODEL SPECIFIC section, I don't come to this website very often.

We're not luved. :crying:

Under the skin the X90 is a two door Vitara - if you have the owner's manual, you'll notice that one manual covers the entire range, so - make your way over to the Suzuki Vitara section and everything you see mechanical will apply to you.

Personally I think $3000 is a bit high, but then you're buying what is essentially a limited production concept vehicle - I guess you're paying a premium for "rareness".

Perfect beach toy? I'd rather have 4WD on my beach toy - but that's just me.

I bought the X-90 and love it. Can live with the red color. Would have preferred a five speed. Have always hated electric windows. But this is only the third one I've seen for sale in ten years.

Blue Book price is $3,000. That would be for one with lots of miles and wear. This thing still had the original wiper blades on it. Hadn't been driven in the rain in ten years. Only driven to car shows. Not a speck of dirt under the hood even. Has the original embroidered floor mats. Things like T-top bags were still in the plastic wrap. Have the original window sticker that was never applied.

I got the biggest tires on it I could without doing the body lift or suspension lift -- 215 75 15s. Only rubs in a few spots and I'll beat them out till it quits rubbing or hack things off. I'll drive on the street most of the time. Will take to the mountains and woods and beach occasionally. I live near the NC mountains. Good little fishin truck to get to the trout streams. Two wheel drive is fine as long as I stay off the worst trails and out of the deep mud. Will probably install a locker rear end.

The kids love the X - Mobile. They ain't come up a good nickname yet. My daughter has it this week since her Tracker is in the shop for a new transmission.

Quite frankly, I don't put too much store in things like "it still has the original wiper blades" - rubber has a way of "perishing" and/or deteriorating over time, and you can also get other issues from lack of use.

The older of the two Suzukis I own now was sitting in the dealer's warehouse for several years before I bought it - he put a new battery in it, and I towed it away - because the engine would not start unless I doped it.

I had to drop the fuel tank, dump the stale fuel, free a sticking fuel pump and clean the carburettor before I could get it to run - it took me almost nine months to get all the muck out of the fuel system, and in that time I became very adept at cleaning the carburettor's primary & secondary main jets - needless to say I never went anywhere without a can of carburettor cleaner and basic hand tools.

The original tires were showing signs of cracking - commonly referred to as "dry rot" when I got the car, but gave little trouble for the first year I had it and were replaced about 18 months into my ownership.

The PO didn't mention the original wipers. I noticed them. Have replaced enough OEM wiper blades to know how they are made and ID them.

I have a tech tip for when folks replace the OEM blades on vehicles. Have shared this with lots of guys who use it. Those two stainless steel ribs pull right out with a pair of needle nose. Clean with steel wool and they make great shrimp cooking skewers.

I'm at too many motorcycle races and rallies each year. Workin all day and night so I don't have time to cook. Love those who do and invite me for supper. I can load shrimp on skewers and marinate ahead of time. Tossed on the grill they cook fast.

The stainless supports also are good for bending and using to make other things. Hold up fiberglass and duct tape. Good for makin spoilers for pit bikes.

My X-90 had a little over 20,000 miles when I bought it a few months ago. last few years it had only been driven to car shows on nice days. Waxed and Armoralled. The original tires were dry rotted. Since I knew it would see highway speeds, dirt mountain roads, and snow I replaced them soon. Didn't like the size either, 195 65. Looked small. Hydroplaned easy.

I put on 215 75 Dunlop SP60s. That's as big as you can go with the stock wheels and no lift.

Mine is the same red. Glad it's 2WD, prefer a five speed, but it has a cool auto. I don't intend to take it anywhere too rough. Have A Sami for that.

Would love to have a more neutral color. I ain't into "Look at me". My favorite Zuki colors are the plum and teal though.

Wish I had that style wheels. Mine has the ugly wheels with three swooping spokes. All the wheels I had around were different offset and would have reduced the track width by two inches. I've always gone wider not narrower.

My daughter is putting a few hundred highway miles on it this week. Will figure out how far off the speedo is with the taller tires. Hope the speedo is driven like other cars I've had and all I need to do is change a drive gear to make it accurate.

The two-wheel drive versions all had the wheels with the three swoopy things. The other style were on the 4x4s.

I see the wheels come up for sale frequently on places like evilBay and craigslist ---- and you can also find good ones in salvage yards.

Such a cool ride. :)

Hey again,

A few more thangs about the X mobiles. The kids and I ain't come up with a name for the X-90 yet that sticks. We just call it X most the time. When people ask about my odd little car, I reply, "My little Red Truck?"

I need to make sure North Carolina classifies it as a truck. That affects passing annual inspection after I have the windows tinted. I want the back window dark like in your photo. Yes, Different rear window tint rules for cars and trucks.

Anywho, I ain't into the attention it draws. Have hard that problem ever since I started buying cars. I buy what I like for specific purposes. So what it might be unique. Just another vehicle I like. Today I rode my 1982 Honda CB 900 Custom. Another vehicle only sold for a few years. Fun bike for this old gray beard Biker.

Like many folks ... I looked at the X - 90 back in the day. Didn't buy one. Hope I can find the sales brochure I remember picking up and seeing a few years ago. I have most the original stuff for my X. It had only 21,000 miles on it when I bought it from the original owner. Have the window sticker, manual, original monogrammed floor mats, etc.

The colors thing ... Suzuki did some cool ones. I've tried to buy a Teal Sami. Like the Plum Trackers. Recently I lined up my red X-90, Ashley's white Tracker and my blue Metro Ragtop for a photo.

About tint. I'm tryin to decide between mirrored and painting the top bar and windshield frame silver, or black and painting the rest of the top black. The black and black might make the X look less top heavy. The mirror and silver might accent the space ship look.

I was in the local Suzuki dealer yesterday and asked about X parts. Specifically rubber door molding and T Top seals. Parts dude told me the big molding has gone up from $90 to $214 each side. I didn't ask about the other pieces. They are not wearhoused in the States anymore. He said it would have to come from Japan. He did tell me that parts will only be available through Suzuki for a couple more years. At 15 years they delete it from the system. Sell all the parts to private vendors.

How well has yours held up? What do you use to treat or protect the rubber seals?

Later

Commonly, my friends and I refer to my X-90 as "The X" ---- as in, "Are we taking the X to the beach?"

Some people call it "Daniel's little red rig."

Florida classifies it as an SUV. I always figured that was so that they could charge more insurance for it.

I've come across sales brochures for it on eBay from time to time.

Those are some interesting thoughts on paint treatments. Who knows?

X90

I just bought one a few weeks ago. I remember when the first came out and thought that they are weird. lol. I have a red one. Its a 4x4 with a kenwood stereo and alpine speakers in it. The thing is mint. I had all the windows tinted very dark gray except the front. I windows are slow specially the passenger side. I bought a replacement motor for it just in case. All my female neighbors except one thought it was a new car. It a 96 I told them they could not believe it. I said small box cars are in again. I have had several looks:p:p
I use to get looks when I drove my Saab Aero combi and BMW M#3 but I don't think its the same look.^_^ I call it my run about.

How 'bout some pics of it?

I've had my '96 since new ---- and I still luv it ---- and I still get frequent questions about it.

here is mine, it has 50 thousand orig. miles on it and a 4.5" lift with 30" All terrain tires and a bullbar
Luv the lift.

I've OFTEN thought of doing a lift kit and a bull bar ---- and a light bar on top ---- to mine.
