I know this should be simple. But they won't come on.
If I run a hot wire from the battery to the red wire going into the backup light socket, both lights will come on but that is the only way I can get them to light.
I checked all the fuses and they are all fine. Which one is for the back up lights ?
Do the lights run through a relay ?
Where is the back up light switch ?
I found a connection on the top of the transmission kind of towards the driver's side near the front. There are two wires coming from it. If I disconnect these two wires from a connector up the line somewhere and put power to one wire and a test light to the other, the test light will not light no matter where the gear shifter is. If this is the backup light switch, am I correct in assuming that it doesn't work ?
If I go to the other side of the connector up the line somewhere that I have just taken apart and put power to one side, I get a spark (obviously a ground.)
When I put 12 volts to the other connector, I hear what sounds exactly like a relay click somewhere on top of the carb !
Does anyone know where :
1. The fuse for the back up lights is.
2. The backup light switch (which I assume) is on the transmission.
3. Where do the wires from the back up lights in the rear bumper run to ?
I'm even more confused than usual and that's sayin' something. Any direction anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.
I don't want to just run a new wire to the sockets and hook up a manual toggle switch on the dashboard because I know I'll forget to turn the stinking thing off but that seems like my only option.
Help? Please ?
