the Mechanical shifter linkage cable works but the bushing on the end of it popped out. Car shifts ok no reverse. Whats the best place to get a replacement without going the japan route for the part. Thanks

Personally, I’d go to the online parts catalog, get the part number of the bushing you need, and then search the internet using that part number. Normally aftermarket sources on the internet will post using the part number. For most things, I’d recommend Rockauto, but they may not carry this particular part that you’re looking for.

Start by entering your VIN in the search box, and as for not going the Japan route, if you're going to buy a JDM truck ...

Maybe not necessarily waiting a long time for parts, but perhaps the difficulty in finding online info for a JDM vehicle.

Here's how I see it - if you want to avoid "going the Japan route", you don't buy a used JDM vehicle.

I'm in the Caribbean, used JDM vehicles are plentiful here and so are used American vehicles - most of the vehicles I have owned were purchased from local dealers and spares can be sourced from those dealers.

Let's say I want to buy a Toyota pickup - I can go to the local Toyota dealer and he'll sell me a Toyota Hilux, or I can buy a used Toyota Tacoma (the Hilux is not sold in the US, the US gets the Tacoma) - the local Toyota dealer has access to service manuals & parts catalogs for the Toyota Hilux, but not for the Toyota Tacoma.

When I choose to buy the used Tacoma, I am committing to having to "go the US route" to get the parts I might need.

One of the vehicles I owned was a Mitsubishi Pajero iO, a model which was available through the local Mitsubishi dealership, but I bought a used JDM Pajero iO - the models supplied by the local Mitsubishi dealership were powered by a port injected single overhead cam 1.8 liter 4G93 engine, my car was powered by a direct injected double overhead cam 1.8 liter 4G93 engine. About the only interchangeable parts on those engines were the block, the crank & the bearings. Pistons were different, valves, gaskets, timing belts, tensioners, all different.

By choosing to buy the used JDM Pajero iO, I committed to having to "go the Japan route".

While I may be incorrect, when I try to research for parts catalog information, I’m only getting online information for all areas other than Japan, so that whatever modifications or differences there might be in a JDM vehicle are not on the internet, as opposed to a vehicle meant for another market…..????
If you put a VIN into Megazip, for a JDM vehcile, will it bring up info? Ssg.asia will not, AFAIK.
