I have a 2003 Grand Vitara and when I engage the 4WD into 4 High the front wheels don't lock and the 4X4 indicator light doesn't illuminate on the dash console. I also tried it in 4WD Low and still no indicator light or 4X4 engage. Any ideas?
Thanks for the reply XL7Limited, I did think of the pump but where my 4X4 indicator light doesn't illuminate on the dash console at all I was thinking it would be my Transfer 4WD switch on the Transfer case. Tonight I did test the Transfer 4WD switch on top of the transfer case and with the ignition in the on position the switch should show 10 -14 volts when in 2H and 0 - 1 volts when in 4 High or 4 Low. My volt meter didn't read any volts when in 2H so I'm going to assume that the switch is faulty. What do you think?
I think I may have mine figured out. I tried a known good pump tonight. Just plugged it in didn't install it yet. Too cold here in NYC.
All it did when my brother put it in 4H was click. Didn'T start pumping.
So I'm guessing its the switch on the transfer case.
Can I get to it from inside with just the removal of the shift console?
Or do I need to get underneath?
Also testing the switch is it just a continuity test?
I think both pumps I have may be good. I guess I'll sell the extra one if so. Can one post parts for sale here?
On a side note on the way home I smelled gas. The *^&^&@#@ fuel hose by the radiator is leaking.
If you heard the pump click behind the front bumper, I'd check voltage (12V) and the connections there at the pump. If OK, replace the pump w/that spare unit you have. All it did when my brother put it in 4H was click
On the Tracker, you can access the pump by just crawling under the front passenger side. Pull the air lines, and the electrical connector, and remove two 14mm bolts. That's it...5 min at most. You don't even need t jack up the front! Just be sure to get the air lines on the right nipples when reinstallingDo you have to Pull the plastic Bumper ? to get at this stuff ?
