2025 Suzuki Swift 1.2GLX - ESP System Failure

Good day, I purchased a new Swift in February 2025. 2 hours after driving the car from the dealership, an ESP System Malfunction warning popped up on my central dash display, telling me to take the car back to the dealership to be inspected. This is now an ongoing issue, happened 05 Feb, 18 Feb, 15 March, 15 April. I have taken the car in 3 times already, workshop says problem is resolved, however not the case. Has anyone experienced the same, and if so, what was done to fix it. I am at my wits end with the dealership, as they are not taking responsibility and trying to come up with ways to justify they have done what they can to fix it.

Welcome to the forum. While this link is not specific to Swift, ESP systems virtually are the same regardless of vehicle. I would ask whether or not you also have codes that have tripped, as sometimes this can give a direction as to where the issue lies. But to familiarize yourself with this, read this:

Thank you Bex for the prompt reply.

I have not seen the codes as yet, but have asked the dealership to share the log with me, does the on-board computer keep a history record of each time the alert is triggered? My argument with them is that, because this happened the first time the same day I drove it, that it must have happened before I got the car (the car had +-1000 km's on the odometer) too, and that they knowingly sold the car with the fault.

Then another question if I may, if the system malfunction error is triggered, why does it disappear when the cart has been turned off? So it basically clears itself until it triggers at a later date.

Yes, the onboard computer (and the read out) will indicate if codes are current or in history. If you can get the log with the codes, it will be helpful to see what circuits are indicating an error, particularly as the EPS system is tied in with the brake system as well. I’m not sure i understand your last question…..everything on your dash that is lit up will turn off when you turn the car off….all the ‘idiot lights’, etc. However, once the engine is running and computer is back online, the codes and malfunction error will show up again, as the computer continues to see those errors with the engine running.
I certainly understand your frustration with the dealer, as I would expect that the EPS error was showing up with them as the car had 1000k on it when you got it. I don’t know if you know anyone who actually has a scanner that could pull the codes for you (other than the dealer) but if so, that might be something that you might try, if the dealer is not being forthcoming with the read out.

Great, then I can find someone who can extract that for me. The car is at the dealership at the moment, I refuse to take it as I have lodged complaints that I believe the car is unsafe to drive and was sold with a defect.

So, when the system malfunction triggers, the alert pops up, but once I turn the car off, when I turn it on again the alert is gone, which makes me believe that the error did happen earlier too.

Thank you for your responses, you have certainly assisted me and given me valuable guidance. I appreciate it!

Good morning, it is very important that you answer me this: when it displays the icon with the car sliding,... then logically your shift should be deactivated...Is that so??? Does this happen???. Answer so I can help you. giorgos engineer from Corinth Greece.

Unfortunately with an intermittent error, sitting in a bay hoping to pull codes is not going to fix this.

The error light resets on ignition off/on as the system runs a test and sees the system in spec.

The procedure for this would be tedious, it involves connecting a scanner with ABS record capabilities and the graphs combined. then driving with it connected until it triggers.. I am sure the dealer is not going to chase the issue, just look for a quick fix (grab a code) and shotgun..

You are opening a big discussion and it will bother everyone in the forum. To analyze - describe the interface with electronic and mechanical terminology, I will be forced to use terms that are difficult to understand. They become understandable, your hair must turn white and you must stay up late several nights.I'll tell you this: nine out of ten specific cars have this problem. From the clumsiness of previous colleagues.... The half-learned is worse than the unlearned.....

Good day, well, I went full tilt, just after I made my original post, complained everywhere, and finally after discussions with the dealership and Suzuki SA, they are adamant the car is not faulty, but I stuck to my guns as I believe the car had serious defects, Suzuki SA proposed a substitution of my car, so I am driving a brand new Swift 1.2 GLX, and can report that the replacement vehicle drives soooooo much better, it is much more responsive to drive, and have after 1000km's not triggered the ESP malfunction, so I am very happy and appreciative with Suzuki for their decision and that they listened to me, so full compliment goes to them.
