My XL7 sometimes goes into neutral by itself. It's happened 4 times in the last few months and is highly intermittent. I have 54k on the truck. This is what happens.

As you are normally accelerating from a stop the trans will go into neutral. If you press on the gas the engine revs up but it's not connected to the trans, as if you had put it in neutral. After a few seconds it will grab and go into gear and everything works normally. No check engine light get set or flashes when this happens. This is a pretty weird problem and I bet difficult to find and fix.

it sounds like your transmission is out of fluid but you can't actually check the fluid level on them. Good thing is that your transmission is warrantied for 100k miles. Take it to the dealer, even if it doesn't show the condition, you will have it documented.

you CAN check your transmission fluid.
there is a small yellow dipstick, its tucked down low. hard to see, even harder to reach..
easier access from underneath, its held in place with a 10mm bolt.

also check for fluid leaks from trans cooler lines or transfer case extension housing(if AWD)
oh and if you're adding fluid, make sure its the right type!
