Hey there, first off I am new here so please don’t be offended by my noob questions. I appreciate any and all the help I can get. So I was inspecting the engine bay of my 1989 Chevy EFI Tracker and noticed an unplugged wire that leads to what I believe is the top of the transfer case? If anyone could point me in the right direction as to where this wire should be plugged in to (or even what it is) I would be overjoyed! I have attached some photos that show what I am talking about. Again I would like to apologize for the noob question.

That's a breather hose, and the thing it's connected to is actually the front differential, not the transfer case - the transfer case is under the car bolted on to the back of the transmission - it's the part with the two driveshafts, one to the front diff and the other to the rear.

It is a breather cap. Yours has not fallen off -- but its top is broken off. The cap is there to let air in and out -- but nothing else. Since the top of yours has fallen off, it's a good idea to replace it. There are schematics on this forum somewhere to help you get the part #. It should be cheap, but finding it may be a little harder.

I use a breather like the one linked below on all my breather hoses. If you plan on driving this in deep water/mud, you'll benefit from extending the hoses from diffs., transmission, and transfer case as well.
