Hi guys, I have been a member for a while but have not been online for a while. I have a 07 vitara with 2ltr and thinking about wacking a turbo on and boosting it to 6-8psi. seen a few j20 turbos in other chassis but only one in a early mod vitara so prob be one of a kind....if anyone has any links would be great help.

thinking i will have the turbo high mounted to clear the aircon stuff and will have to re-route some of the fuel lines and vac lines and the vac tank but should be pretty do-able, will use aem piggy back ecu and some larger injectors to control fuel. turbo will be cheap china t3/t4 with smallish ar to keep spool time good and theres a guy in the states with cast manifolds for the j20 for pretty cheap

eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d?r

whats everyones thoughts, flame away....should have brought a v6 etc;)

im just looking on ebay to order the bends and muffler to do the rest of the exhaust its still stock from cat back just minus rear muffler. going to be 3inch from turbo back with just stock cat to keep o2 sensor happy and one short resonator so should help with power a bit I'm hoping. probably be a few months before its near a dyno again but will get some hp numbers at some stage that's for sure, next time in Brisbane will take to the drags also to compared to my time I ran when it was stock.

only thing that sucks I having to run the exhaust under the diff at the rear, wanted to do it 2.5inch so not so low under the diff but 3inch will be better for power and spool time. really need to do a subframe drop then could run exhaust over the subframe and wont drag it when off road. thought maybe 3inch to the diff then split to twin 2.5inch under the diff with twin tips at the rear one either side:)

I finished the 3inch exhaust today. bit louder, deeper note sounds more like jap turbo car. changed the intake also so filters is mounted just off the front of the turbo. now don't have to remove the front bar to clean it, and higher up so don't have to worry about water.

goes better now enough that clutch just frys on boost. next mod will be new clutch and fix oil leak in back of gearbox

took some pics of new exhaust and intake, also got a new awning today to.
ordered heavy duty clutch from NPC in Brisbane today, cant wait to get that in and be able to give it full throttle again without clutch slip

new shade awning and my awesome offset falcon rims:)

angled tip down a bit

one small resonator no mufflers and just 1 cat

3inch mandrel bends tig welded, tried to get it up as high as possible but keeping enough clearance between body parts

did a little day trip today car went well even with car loaded up turbo makes it so easy to just cruise along at 100ks up hills don't even need to drop back a gear.

glad I moved the intake because did a water crossing that was upto the door sills and would have prob sucked into the intake where it was before.

Next I want to get some bigger injectors and put a surge tank in and bigger pump and raise the boost to 20psi and see what breaks:) might throw in some pistons and rods and see if I can make 300whp

did some tested and found my cooler was getting pretty hot. 25deg above ambient after a 18second run.
had this laying around so put it on, went for a quick drive tiny bit my laggy but pulls harder on boost

some pics of the clutch change too
flywheel had a few hot spots so needed machining

Hey Ute,
I've been following this thread on the low for some time. I have practically the exact same GV as you. This has been a great resource for research, understanding my vehicle and planning what mods I want to do.

I was wondering, since it's so difficult to find aftermarket clutch kits specifically branded for our GV and since we share so many parts with the SX4 which does have a bunch of aftermarket clutch options, I was wondering if you knew whether or not SX4 clutch parts would fit?

I lean toward yes but that's based on the assumption that we'd have not only the same engine but the same transmission as the SX4

I've been running around on 12 psi for almost a year. Started to get boring so wound boost upto 17-18psi, these motors arnt meant to be very good but has surprised me. The power now is pretty ridiculous for what the car is. 2nd and 3rd gear rear end squads and front end gets light and wants to torque steer. I'm starting to think the vitara got better internals then the sx4 all the turbo boys in the US break rods at 10psi. Maybe the extra weight and bigger turbo spools slower so revs slower so not as much load. Either way puts a huge smile on ya face when it hits full boost. Here is a little vid afr was a bit lean upto do didn't push it to hard. All tuned up now and runs sweet

In the search for more hp I did some research and found what people use for upgrades for the sx4 which has the same motor, which is a larger us Toyota one so went on forums to see what they use which is rx8 throttle body so picked up a rx8 tb from wreckers for $50 which is about 70mm. I had a look and the rx8 guys use the new Toyota 86 ones which are 76mm but cost about $120 so o compromised with the 70 should be large enough maybe to big.

So next mods will be making a new alloy plenum to get rid of the plastic one and the butterflys and run the rx8 tb. I hooked it up and ecu opens and closes it but tps signal is wrong so just need to swap over the electrics and will be good to go. Here is a pic of rx8 and stock

Yeah but boost is restriction to flow so less flow you have the more boost you need to make. Take stock xr6 turbo I have a 12psi actuator so 12psi at the front of the turbo and it opens the wastegate now with all the stock piping and intercooler I only have 8psi at the engine after all the restrictions. So if I want to run 12psi at the engine I'm prob running 16+psi at the turbo. Which means more heat and work for same output then if you had less restrictions. Once you put a large cooler and shorter piping 12psi at the turbo becomes 11-12psi at the engine. I don't have a huge boost drop on the Suzuki but bigger is always better at the least I wanted it to be 2.5 all the way from turbo to plenum because I'm limited to keep the maf the same size so wanted to maximize the tb size after the maf.

I found a place in the us that sell diy plenum tops so will get one of them and make a new plenum when I do the new throttle body

It's not lol, I put in the sti pink injectors. So was happy to boost it back upto 20psi safely but clutch doesn't like it major slipping will hold the power till hit full boost then just lets go and 4x4 lights flash on the dash so back to just gate pressure 14psi. Made a new intake sounds heaps different now will post a pic sometime

heres some pics of the new intake i made, its pretty long and would get a bit of heat soak but the old one was rubbing on the radiator hose and some other bits and didnt really get any fresh air, with new one i think it has improved spool time slightly.

put a m18 in and turbo or supercharge it. heaps more after market parts for them and have 4 bolt mains, you can use you stock ecu then with a piggy back to control fuel and timing.
