P0128 Coolant temp irregularity

My daughter's 05 GV (2.5L auto) had a P0128 DTC this morning. I monitored live data and the coolant seemed slow to warm up, but not terribly slow. Coolant bottle is full. Heater is hot.

She drives about 1 mile to work, and rarely drives otherwise. I've told her she needs to warm up the car more frequently, drive longer distances occasionally, but... You know how that goes. Dad-advice goes in one ear, and out the other.

After looking at FF data, today I cleared the codes and drove it vigorously for a few miles and fully warmed up the car. No codes currently, pending or active.

Here's a photo of her instrument panel:

Is this the proper position for the coolant temp gauge, when the car is fully warmed up?

I read that the usual suspects are low coolant, stuck thermostat, and faulty intake air temp sensor. It's acting like the thermostat might be stuck partially open. I also know from this forum that the ECT sensor and the dash coolant temp gauge are on two separate sensors.

My plan is to check the t-stat housing with a laser gun to check actual temps. My thoughts today are that she should fully warm up the car and drive it a while, to see if and when the DTC returns.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Philip can you elaborate? I might expect 220? How so? I figure it's got a 180 thermostat and it's opening but maybe not completely closing.

The 180* thermostat opens but the heat/BTU may be greater than the cooling system can handle, fans need to come into affect to handle the excess load.

FWIW: my dash gauge settles where yours does, but the scanner (graphed) shows a different story..

Never rely on the gauge, my ect reports swings of 20C without any noticeable needle movement
