I own a 1996 Sierra and it's been in my family since it was bought in 1997. In the past 10 years it's needed the fuel pump changed twice due to failures, but aside from that regualar servicing and the usual things like brake checks etc have kept it in great running condition.

It used to be owned by my dad and I'm fairly sure I've put in through more in the year or so I've owned it then in the 9 years he has and it's still fine. Never needed to replace anything major in it!

Oh and just before I forget, simple because it's happened to me, if you go 4x4ing just keep an eye out when going over rocks etc or where your back end is going to drop steeply as mine has landed on the fuel tank a couple times denting it rather well. Oops. Of course, this could be just my relative in-experience.

Just as a tribute to Sierra's and how tank they really are. I have a mate who own's a 1987 sierra and there has been minimal changes in the sierra, at least between our models and in the 10 years between them. The spare wheel has dropped about 5cm, the side indicators are now mounted further back and the warm air/cool air switch at the front became automatic. Otherwise everything is virtually identical (or so it seems).
