Can some body help me, when my geo is cold, it run fine, then when its hot, the revs go down when I stop, sometimes it turn off, and you can smell a bad odor from gases, not a regular rich gas mixture, I have a friend that borrow me from his x90 1995 his mass sensor, idle control valve and continue with the same problem, you can see sometimes de revs go up to 1500 then go fast to 500 or less, and the motor begin to shake 300-400 revs, when you put the gas it run great, strong with force, sometimes when you put 2nd or 3 at the beggining, doesnt clean the rev very well until you push more gas and runs great. I hope some body can help.me.

I agree with 2013GV. With doing the test of pinching vacuum hoses, you should not have any change in idle on any vacuum hose, other than the one that goes to the ISC. The fact that pinching the vacuum hose going to the EVAP canister from the brown vacuum solenoid valve, causes your idle to drop, would indicate that you have a vacuum leak in that hose, the connections to it, etc., or that, as 2013GV says, your VSV solenoid is stuck in the open position. When the solenoid is open all the time (or a leak in the vacuum hose), the extra fuel it’s allowing in can cause an unstable idle.
You can do the test that 2013GV advises, by disconnecting the vacuum hose and blocking it off, and taking the car for a short drive. You should also just look at that vacuum hose to see if you see any cracks or damage.
The factory service manual gives a number of tests, in order to test the solenoid itself, most of which use a vacuum gage in order to see if the solenoid is open or closed. Do you have one? It’s probably easiest just to first identify that this is the circuit that’s causing the difficulty, and checking to see if there isn’t a vacuum leak in that connecting hose.

Hi Bex, thanks, when a pinch that hose doesn't drop the iddle, it improve the iddle, making the engine running like new, and if I pinch the house after and before the selenoid its making the same, improve the iddle to 900 rpm, now Im.going to block the hose and take it to a ride to see what happend and tell you back guys. Thank for all the help

Well guys, I arrive from the ride, I put a bolt in the hose and everything is gone, not check engine On, perfect revs, not bad gas smell, it work perfect. Why I can leave that bolt in there?? ?, just kidding. Not I dont have the manual and the vac tool, but maybe I can find one. After the 2 post that I wrote, taking in consideration that if I pinch the hose after and before the selenoid and in both situation improve in the dame way, what you think would be the next step?

supposed to be closed with no power on it, so yep, this is faulty, and you have done well finding it and replacing it and proving that it was indeed the problem.

Hi, I took the next step, I went to a junkyard and bought the solenoid for 10 box, (new in autozone 183), I installed and the car is running great for now, revs perfect and no chech engine light on, I hope that continue like that, I have to thay again thank you so much guys, I been learning with you a lot of things!!! Im so glad that right now that fail is gone.
Thanks!!!! If I have another problem, I will be back!!?

looks like it was a stuck solenoid allowing what was effectively a massive air leak making the car run "lean" and making the idle revs drop. The gas smell would have been from the engine sucking fumes straight from the gas tank thru the evap canister most probably.

Well done, I'm glad you found the problem and fixed it.

Well done! I’m really glad that you found your problem - and also learned a bit more about your car, as well. There are a lot of things that are easy enough on these engines, to deal with by yourself, rather than having to go to a mechanic. Enjoy!!

VERY nice looking! That teal color is a favorite of a lot of the posters here. I like your snorkel, and the decals on the fender/doors. I have something like that on my doors, too, except is just mud.....;)
Just curious - what size are your tires??
