Had same problem on my 2010 Grand Vitara and two Suzuki outlets said it was coming up with a Fault Code C1061 on the diagnostic machine and quoted around $4,000 to fix and could not guarantee that this would fix the fault. I hunted around Australia for a second hand ABS Pump and found one in Sydney for $400 which when fitted by my local mechanic fixed the fault. Suzuki know about the problem but they say as it doesn't harm the driving of the vehicle it has not considered it serious, so no Recall, although America did.
 
This ESP Warning happened to me too and it turned out to be a weak battery.

10.5v was observed measuring at the battery terminals after the car was left parked overnight in the morning, and dropped even more during cranking.

A new battery touch wood and it has not happened again.
My Wife who has been driving the car a lot recently has told me the warning has started to come up in the mornings again...and sometimes stay on for a while!

Looks like our battery might be going cactus again! Will need to get out the MM and check the voltage before and during cranking at first start in the morning.

Yes I was told it was the battery, and I replaced it and it was OK for a while but even with my car constantly connected to a trickle charge while garaged, the fault returned. I spoke to Suzuki and also had two diagnostics done and they all said that the ABS Pump required replacement at a cost of nearly $3000.00, even though the car had only done 25000kms. I obtained a second hand unit from a 2011 car from a company in Sydney for $400 and my local mechanic installed it for $100 and the car is now back to normal. Suzuki in the States re-called the Grand Vitara to replace this unit, but Australia refuses to comply. It stinks, when they know there is a fault, but they say that it "Does not compromise the safety of the vehicle" but it does cause the situation when we cannot sell the car with a warning flashing away.

I remember this fault happened to us firstly about two years ago, and the car had the original battery in it from new.

It was checked and found to be 10.5v without the car running, and upon cranking it dropped to under 10v and triggered the fault.

Since it was replaced back then we haven't had the fault return till now.

I hope its not the ABS pump!!

I recommend you get your vehicle diagnostically tested to see what code comes up - if it comes up with Code C1061 it means that a new ABS Pump is required and it will cost between $3000 and $4000 to replace, by I, after searching for a while, got one from a write-off for $400 and had it installed for $100.
 
If it is diagnosed as requiring a new pump, check the solder connections for cracks, re-flow solder will fix..

In my case I've got C1028 code when ESP lights was on. "Master Cylinder Pressure Sensor". Found company in Poland, they fixing it. Don't know about C1061 but I think is worth to ask. They sent me fixed hydraulic part of the ABS pump and was able to replace it in three hours. Sent them back my faulty one. Cost was 1000 PLZ (about 350USD)

Hi Guys...an update.

Mine turned out to be the battery again. It was below voltage and causing the ESP warning on startup...the battery has now been in use over 3 years and has a failed cell.

I have replaced the battery with a new heavy duty calcium unit and the issue has cleared up.
 
Hi I have a 2008 Suzuki Grand Vitara JT 2.4 L I'm having the same warning light 2 in the manual it says if my warning light comes on when you're driving pull over very carefully so it must be dangerous we all should ring consumer affairs and complain not happy thanks
 
I fixed the stering box of my grand vitara because it had an oil leak and after that I got the maintenance to esp system message.
The mechanic told me that ordering to align the direction could solved the problem and that was it, after the alienation the message no longer appeared.
He also told me that it may appear when the brakes or tires are changed or the tires are too worn.

A few weeks ago upon starting my 2009 GV I started receiving the following warning message

I took the vehicle to the dealership and they returned it to me stating that they connected their scan tool and came up with nothing, however, I am still having the problem and the frequency of the warning is increasing (i.e. it is happening almost every time I start the vehicle now as against every ten or so starts when it first started). Has anyone experienced this problem and if so how was it corrected.
Any and all comments/suggestions etc. will be greatly appreciated.
I know this is an old thread but I just wanted to say that due to this forum, I firstly checked my tyre pressure - one tyre was low. I still had the problem above, so I took the car to a garage and asked them to check the power output on my battery. Battery was fully charged but only giving out 25%. They installed a new battery. The "service ESP system" warning was no longer there but the traction symbol was lit instead. As instructed by the garage I drove the car slowly, hard lock to the right, then hard lock to the left, then down the road. Within 2 mins that warning light had gone out too. Problem solved!
 
This is very common as the battery ages, the volts drop lower during starting and reach a point where the esp system gives up.

If replacing a battery, key on, wait 45 seconds, then start car, this resets the "idle learn" function in the throttle body. Drive 200 metres straight a head to reset ESP light, DO NOT do a "lock to lock" movement of the steering wheel a this will just make the ESP reset process longer. Can take up to 5 mins to reset after doing a full lock movement as the ECU is looking for a steady straight line to reset the "centre" point of the steering angle sensor.

Takes about 10 to 15 seconds of straight line driving to reset if you just drive off after replacing the battery.
 
2009 Diesel JB

I had the old low voltage issue and bought a battery with higher amp rating than the manufacturer specifies - this is what you should look for when choosing a more rugged battery that can kick a cold, tight-fitting diesel engine into action in the morning.

Now, a few years later the ESP module has gone. Attempted to have it refurbished (a new one is $3,000) worked for a few weeks then back to square one. Bought a warrantied second hand one - but discovered they are all different - even for the same model car.

There was one manufactured in Mexico, and another in the Philipines and another in Malaysia, they had different pin arrangements. It seems you have to get someone who knows what they are doing to identify what's been put on your car then to approach the country of origin of that part for replacements OR phone around and ask them the country of origin of the spares they are selling, AND the part number and perhaps send them a photo of your particular unit - to be sure.

Suzuki's seem to be a mongrel mix of parts from different manufacturers. As you probably know the Diesel engine is a Renault, my fan for the air conditioning had Mitsubishi written on it but the used part I replaced it with was made by another manufacturer!

sounds like a very sensitive voltage sencor.


I no my m8 riped the bulb out and cut speaker bleeper lol ? I no ******* stuff but worked, yes get the same message as all above from Suzuki

its a documented note in the suzuki TSB's, and I have personally experienced it on my 2015 when the factory battery got a bit soggy this winter and car had sat for 4 days non running. First start, ESP warning. stopped it, key off, waited 20 seconds, re-started and esp light went out.

I Had the same prolem especially when it was cold. After I got a new battery the warning went away.
 
I have checked the factory service manual, Low voltage supply ESP code is triggered at 10.8 V.
That voltage is easily seen at the battery terminals when a battery is getting older and its cold when the car is cranking. I have seen them go below 10 cranking, but thats really noticeable in the slow cranking.
 
I have once this message coming home at night (very cold). It was some time after crossing an off-road with snow. My conclusion was the sensor was frozen with the water and the low temperature. When them took temperature again (next morning) the message was removed.
