Hey guys,
Suzuki S-Cross GLX Allgrip 2015 owner here.
So after 3 months of back and forths with the Suzuki dealership and researching the issue EXTENSIVELY in forums all around the globe in different languages (Google translator was super helpful here),
the dealership has finally resolved the issue (at least for now).
According to the workshop mechanic, they did the following (all under a Suzuki warranty, at no cost for me):
*Full transmission service
*Replacement of Air filter
*Replacement of camshaft sensor
*Replacement of transmission oil filter change
*Replacement of transmission oil filter gasket
*Replacement of transmission oil filter sensors
*TCM (Transmission Control Module) firmware UPDATE and Reprogramming
I've been testing the Scross for about a month now and so far so good, the issue hasn't come back. No more dashboard alert, no more jerkiness, no more engine skipping. I've already tested it on 3 long road trips (3 hrs each), on very long slopes, uphill and downhill and in city traffic, and so far everything is fine, the problem has not occurred again.
If you are having these issues, I would start with replacing the Camshaft sensors and updating the TCM firmware, and maybe go from there.
I only had the
4WD MODE UNSELECTABLE AUTO MODE ON alert on the dashboard, and on a few occasions the CVT would feel a bit jerky. It would also have issues when going uphill, like a lack of power and sometimes the transmission would skip.
However, I've read of some people having these issues and additionally more serious ones, such as the engine turning off or the unit not accelerating and they have to turn it off, let it rest and turn it on again so that the problem is solved, or more dashboard lights turning on about transmission, temperature, etc. I did not have these additional problems, only the two that I mentioned.
If I'm honest, I think that not even they know what solved the problem. It was trial and error, even the mechanic told me it was a headache solving the issue. I am 50% sure that the issue will return at some point, but for my peace of mind I decided to leave the topic there. My used car warranty defaults in 3 days, and I'm not planning to spend on expensive repairs for this car, other than the regular maintenance and typical parts wearing down and replacing them.
I have to say I'm not happy with the Suzuki brand, I'm very disappointed in the dealership taking over 3 months to solve/patch the issue (I didn't have my car for all of this time). It was supposed to be a certified unit, but the problems arrived on day 1 after riding it out of the dealership. Maybe I just had bad luck and it was just a bad production batch, but this whole experience has ruined the Suzuki brand for me.
I'll keep the car for now, will put another 20,000 Km on it before selling it or trading it in for a Toyota, which I wish I had done from the beginning.
I'm attaching a photo I took the last time I picked up my Scross from the workshop (some of the parts they replaced are missing in this photo).
I hope this is helpful for you guys, I really wish you good luck with this issue because I know it was a freaking nightmare for me.
PD: I live in Mexico, 1820meters above sea level, in case it's relevant.
