I read with interest an old thread re scan tools started in 2023 by the Vitara handyman and the replies dating back to 2023.My Australian 2023 Vitara from new has travelled 30Kms in 2 years and serviced by the dealership. Its my intention to service the Vitara when warranty expires in 1 years time.I am old school trained yet young in heart with some basic understanding of OBD and that 2023 thread assisted that understanding.I beleive that you get what you pay for and wonder with that in mind what should I purchase that’s still supported in 10 years Or is that wishful thinking 🤔

I get where you are coming from Aquanaught and being a novice in this world of OBD,find uncertainty.
As you mentioned not all scanners behave well with different car manufacturers and this is what I call the digital revolution and presume in your case the need in updating your diagnostic equipment.
For me to purchase a bi dir scanner such as the THINKCAR can I be certain it will provide all functionality.
Could it be like a hit or miss approach for me to purchase such a scanner wth out knowing if it will talk to my Australian 2023 Suzuki Vitara. If I provide the VIN to a reputable diagnostic tool manufacturer can they tell me what functions it will perform on my car that I am aiming to maintain for next 10 to 15 year.As I am getting on in years this will be my last car since obtaining my licence in 1996.
Your thoughts in regards to certainty etc would be appreciated 🤓

I would certainly contact the tool manufacturer and inquire. Another consideration would be the renewal costs, the Thinkcar 689BT advertises free updates..

Yes we are all coming to and past our best before date LOL !.. I am in my 77th, and the promised golden years have evolved into the rust years,,

The Topdon AD800BT also a cable with free updates and 1/2 the initial outlay.

Also keep in mind if a BT dongle is not a requirement, the corded versions also represent a savings.
