Apple Carplay USB issues

Hi all,

My wifes motor 2015 Vitara use to have no issues with CarPlay and has just stopped working. No Smartphone activity either with my Samsung. I did get charging off my Samsung but not off her iPhone.

I assume it can't be down to a fuse (if it is, I can easily replace it) but any suggestions why the option of Carplay is now gone or not even come up?. I've tried various cables (data transfer) and original iPhone cables to no success.

Didn't know if I needed to buy this:

Thanks.

That socket looks to have the same power/data combination as the clock in the dash. There are a few posts on here where the clock has gone daft and they’ve been fixed by disconnecting the battery so that may well be worth a try.

Make sure you know the code for the infotainment system beforehand.

Suzuki replaced my head unit with this fault under warranty, I have a video on YouTube of the fault if you search for it.

A year later it has started doing it again, new phone new leads. Something inherently wrong with the equipment.

I'd be tempted to say yes the socket has probs gone belly up, but that's daylight robbery for a new one. Maybe worth taking a punt on getting one from a breakers for a more sensible price.
Bit of a dilemma as you'd get a better guarantee on a brand new one, but have had your pants down on the price in the process - maybe a breaker will offer guarantee against dead-on-arrival?

Try messaging these sellers that are breaking Vitara LY for parts

Hello Dan,
I’ve got the exact same problem with my wife’s car. I’ve also tried the same but nothing works. Until I bought a serious data transfer cable with a chip that regulates the power transmitted. It worked well for one day. But the problem seem to be back the day after :(
Have you ordered the USB from eBay? Did it work with you?
Every time we got the car to Suzuki, they would say the cable isn’t good 😒 I’m sure it’s not the cable, or the phone FireWire or type.

Thanks I’m advance.

As stupid as it sounds, I have found one brand of cable that works for my phone and the majority of the cars I end up driving in the course of a week.

I have several other cables including supposedly " certified " ones that won't work, or intermittently connect.

Its a real p.i.t.a.

Exactly. Apple is a closed shop despite certifying the chip in other cables. Even Belkin, a decent OEM, doesn’t always work.

I have a cheap unitek branded cable that seems to work fine.
Belkin can be hit and miss in my experience, I must just get the Friday pm or Monday am made ones.

I have found exactly the same thing. Brand new, never used, genuine Apple lead, wont work. Two Belgin leads dont work. An odd 3 metere lead from I cant remember where, perfect. I have noticed that when plugging in, if iphone does not show charging, the Carplay is not going to work.

I had a fix for the Suzuki USB CarPlay issue 🤩🤩🤩
Well after millions of trails and attempts to buy a power outlet and replace it with the old one. I bought a usb that has a chip to regulate the power coming out from the car. A proper data transfer cable (thick too). The cable seemed to work fine for one day then it stopped even charging!
I decided to pull out the usb with its cable outside from the car 😅 yeah i freaked out as I wasn’t able to reach back the plug with my fingers!! For a moment I thought of passing a longer usb cable and pull out the car’s usb plug with my two fingers from the opening under the steering wheel (I was doing that in the street, it looked like I was trying to wire the car 😂😂😂😂
Anyway, I unplugged the piece from the usb cable of the car (the parts head) and I blew into it. Plugged it back and pulled it with the usb cable I mentioned earlier. Mounted it back into the car with the square frame. And it’s two days that it’s been working perfectly ☺🙌🏼🤞🏼

Well, it finally happened. My CarPlay stopped playing nicely and further investigation showed that it wasn’t charging the phone. Periodically on a journey it would spring into life and promptly disconnect. Suffice it to say that using the standard satnav wasn‘t a very good experience (it’ll be 2018 maps at best but the routing was still wierd).

Anyway, despite my repeated posts that you must use a bona fide Apple cable, it turns out I’ve been running on a cheap clone for the past 3 years. Swapped out the cable and all seems good again.

There‘s a post on the Apple support page that helps identify a real cable vs a Poundland fake. Mine looked good in terms of connectors and fasteners but failed on the Apple branding approximately 7” along the cable from the USB side. It says something like “Designed by Apple in Cappuchino manufactured in China”.

I’m surprised the Poundland version worked at all and for as long as it did.

I find 90% of my problem with my I pad is that damned lightning connector getting dirty. Wipe with a iso propyl lens wipe and it starts charging again.

Yes, it is the genuine cable it came with.

I thought I’d been using a genuine cable but it turns out I had just used a clone. Interestingly it won’t charge the phone at all from any mains adapter so I’m guessing that one of the cheap copper tracks burnt out.

Kosher cable robbed from the bedroom and all seems to be okay. I guess the issue will be when you can’t get hold of the original cables now Apple have gone to type C on the USB side.

Type C is a bit more tolerant as there's duplicate pins, if one burns out in the power supply side, its designed to fall back to a power power state. I prefer type C to lightning as at least the pins are shrouded and better protection from dropping it and breaking the end.

Nope, CarPlay is the issue. Even on my new head unit with 2 usb sockets that are good quality i still have issues, and my one cable that works, works well. Cable works in sons car, my other cables won't.

I owned a Break My Wallet once, never again. They suit their name.

My 2021 Vitara stopped talking to my iPhone plus no charging. I was given the old "It's the lead", by the dealer.

Today, following three full day visits to the dealer, we are still with no CarPlay or charger. They admitted today they are stumped.

Apparently they are contacting Suzuzi UK to ask for their help. I have been told it could be a three day job and they will loan me a car.

Dont be fobbed off if you are sure your lead/s are good as mine are.

Simple check, if its fine with Android its your lead. If Android ain't working, then suspect socket, lead to head unit, or head unit.
