My new-to-me Tracker is missing the battery hold down.

The hold down on my '89 SK has attachment posts that insert into holes at the front and back of the tray.

The Geo only has holes at the back (next to firewall) and one on the right but lacks the one at the front (first pic):

I’ll take a photo of mine when I go out to the car. I have the same situation as you, and there is an area in front of the battery tray that I was able to use as the front part for the hold down.

You should have a hole in the strut tower just ahead of the battery tray:

OK, I did find the hole there on the tower but on my car it was covered by a thick section of the wiring harness.

I can't tell for sure but it seems your tray has the (elongated) hole at the front. Is there a reason you don't use that for the anchor?

Bex is correct -- the hold down holes are TWO, one in the back (which you show in your photo), and one in the front (seen in Bex's photo). There is no attachment on either side of the battery -- just the front and the back. It's just a bar that goes across the top -- which perhaps you are missing.

The bar across the top is attached to rods -- on in the front, and one in the rear. They are threaded on the top to attach to the bar across the top. The connection hole for the front rod (as seen in Bex's photo is hard to see because it's on the back of the Strut top.

If you lack the bar that runs across the top of the battery, that would be easy to fabricate. The rods would be a little more involved.

It looks like you are missing the plastic tray for the battery -- which protects the metal plate from corrosion. These are easy to make out of the bottom of a plastic jug of the size of your battery.

^ I will be using the holder off my '89 SK. The SK is now a parts car as I don't really utilize the 4WD. It will be nice to have a bunch of spares that are increasingly harder to find and some are getting quite pricey.

thats interesting, in ALL the versions of the parts list i checked, the tray always has an ear on the front side....

not that it really matters, been there and checked that before because my tray had some battery acid damage in that area, so ended up drilling a hole in the tower to hook the rod,

existing ear or not, easily solved, dont loose sleep over it, learn from mcgyver

The fact that yours didn't already have the hole in the tower is another puzzler.

Long before Mcgyver there was Bronson who was adept at repairing his HD Sportster with whatever he might find at hand. Rock, rebar, pitchfork, etc.
