Thought I was making progress today: Finished a few tasks, verified the rotor was on #4, marked the distributor, loosed the bolt and then pulled it; followed by the housing. Both extensively grease covered. Cleaned up the rear of the block and the top of the trans bell housing, then switched to the Distributor housing. Cleaned it up a bit, and ... WTH am I looking at???
Did a search, but was unable to find any similar occurrences. Anybody seen this before? The center crack is the longest; it stops at the outer reinforcement or the O-ring channel. The other (2) are about 1/8" shorter, and have not reached the outer reinforcement flat section. None of the cracks have propagated through the appx 3/16" wall of the distributor holder shaft - at least not that I can see looking down the hole; but I cannot get a good visual angle, and the area is severely oil discolored.
Part number is 11161-60A00. Both PartSouq and Megazip are out of stock. Searched and found one on Ebay where the seller had good quality pics of this area, and I could confirm it was good;
Not 1, not 2, but 3 fricken cracks where the O-Ring channel transitions to the distributor holder. Weird stuff.
If this part were more expensive I guess the next step would be a dye penetrant test to see if the crack is actually spread into the O-Ring seat area or through the wall. But for $60 for a replacement, it's just not worth the effort.
Something else to look for when you are changing Distributor O-Rings.
Sigh.

One more thing - I discovered that Low range Off Road is actually making these for Samurai 1.3 and Tracker/Sidekicks - but only with aftermarket cams.
Looks identical from this view.
I'm going to give them a call tomorrow and see why this would not work on a stock 1.6 8V.
