Welcome to the forum. This question has been asked many times on the forum - some people have luck with the 235's but most have rubbing at full extension with them and some have to cut away parts of the wheel well - or do a lift - in order to accommodate them. The largest tire that you can always get away with is 225/75/15. Note that the 235's are also too wide for the stock rim (5.5"). If you search the forum you will be able to hit individual posts with the pros and cons but above is the answer in a nutshell....

I have run 235's on my 89 for many years with no issue at all. Some times you have to take a hammer to make them work on some cars but nothing major. I know all tires are supposed to be created equal but they are not there can be up to an inch or more difference. They certainly ride and handle better and no issues with the width,

I've run 235/75r15's pretty much since I owned my Tracker. I did buy 15x7" rims with a 3.75" backspace when I got the tires. Mostly I wanted a bit more track width, which I got from the rims. I agree the stock rims are too narrow for most 235's, just check the manufacturers recommendations. It can be done, but not really a great idea. As Bex said, 225/75's are a better choice for no lift & stock rims. Since I rarely do much real off-roading I will probably get 225/75's when it's time to replace tires. I do notice some sluggishness on highway uphills, some of which is probably the tire size.
Mine did rub the back of the fender well on the plastic liner some in tight turns, like in a parking lot. Minor scrub & mostly it was no problem for on road situations. I put the Old Man Emu 1 1/2" lift on a bit later & have no rub at all now. I wanted the ride quality as much or more than lift, which the OME provides.
It's a balancing act between 'more tire' & keeping close to stock driving characteristics. Mostly you have to decide what its use is... more off road, or more street friendly.
