I've run 235/75r15's pretty much since I owned my Tracker. I did buy 15x7" rims with a 3.75" backspace when I got the tires. Mostly I wanted a bit more track width, which I got from the rims. I agree the stock rims are too narrow for most 235's, just check the manufacturers recommendations. It can be done, but not really a great idea. As Bex said, 225/75's are a better choice for no lift & stock rims. Since I rarely do much real off-roading I will probably get 225/75's when it's time to replace tires. I do notice some sluggishness on highway uphills, some of which is probably the tire size.
Mine did rub the back of the fender well on the plastic liner some in tight turns, like in a parking lot. Minor scrub & mostly it was no problem for on road situations. I put the Old Man Emu 1 1/2" lift on a bit later & have no rub at all now. I wanted the ride quality as much or more than lift, which the OME provides.
It's a balancing act between 'more tire' & keeping close to stock driving characteristics. Mostly you have to decide what its use is... more off road, or more street friendly.
