I have a 2007 Suzuki XL-7 3.6 that's misfiring on bank 2. Codes are P0300, P302, P0304,P0306. I switched spark plugs and and coils from cylinder 1,3,5 and its still misfiring. Any Ideas to what else it could be? I pull the hose from the air filter to the intake and it had a lot of oil in it I don't know if that mean anything. It starts right up with no problem, its just when driving. And make a noise when turning or pressing on the gas It sound like the fan was loose but its not I'm so lost.

3 areas that I would investigate,

  • Illegal air on Bank2, and
  • Valve timing (chain), and
  • Fuel rail on #2 bank

Any more info on this, mine is doing the exact same, exact my oil light is on and mine is beeping... So its not been driven in a while now... The local garage said that I need a new engine...but also waited to tell me after they completed an oil change along with changing 2 coil packs and my spark plugs, and running seafoam in it...It starts fine, but after it runs for a minute...that rubbing fan noise starts if I were to move it...

I had all these same problems lately with my 2007 XL-7 128,000. I replaced everything I could think of via mechanic. Guess what 2 weeks later sitting dead the engine seized. hearing this is very common for this vehicle.
This. you would have hard time convincing me.. Maybe hydolocked!!

What you need is a new machanic..

Did he remove the plugs and perform a cylinder compression test??

Did he check the PCV system??

If there is NO compression on one bank, I would be looking at a timing chain..

and not driving it..

Of course my question is, Why was he changing parts without a diagnosis, GUESSING!

Hawk,
I reread your original post, and I am confused.

You report
codes P302, P0304,P0306
(cylinders 2,4,6) and then work on Cylinders 1,3,5 for misfire, Why?

Ok Guys, these engine are failing because the owners are failing to look after them..

The engine detects a misfire, for what ever reason, the CEL will illumnate, the owner either ignores the light or goes on a switch/change parts regime..

While this is going on, plugs, coils and who knows what else.. the ECU is detecting a missfire and a lean mixture, so it turns up the pulse in the injectors... More cylinders missfire, the engine is now in distress, showing a lean mode but runnug rich, washing all lubrication off the walls and as a side product, cooking the CAT..

Finaly with no fire in the holes to burn off the fuel, the unlubricated rings expand and seize to the walls... and it is labeled a bad engine...

Do you think with proper diagnostics from the start the result would be different??

Yea I haven't been driving it cause it's bad. And it only has 100k miles. Apparently the mechanic did all of this after running the diagnostics on it but he doesn't know much from what I can see. I will have someone else look into the timing chain and see what happens. I don't want to have to end up having to replace the engine if i don't have to. I've only had the car for 6 months and I don't know what all was done to it before.

Important note:

If you are going to run the engine,
disconnect the injectors on hte offending cylinders (so they dont spray fuel), and

disconnect the COPs on the offending cylinders (so they do not dry fire, will burn out)

Pull non firing plugs and spray some oil...

Well I've had the car checked by another mechanic and basically it's either to replace the bad cylinders or get an engine. One cylinder is dead and two of the others have low psi. I'm at a loss as to what to do as it's very bad timing to have a car do this now. And the only place where they have an engine is selling it for $2200.

Again, I question the mechanic,

Did he perform a leak down and what was the conclusion??

Where was the compression leaking??

If from the upper end, did he check the cam timing, (he needed to remove the intake to do that)..

ps: there is no such diagnosis as "Change the bad cylinders"

I did not see that you received any answer as to your problem... But i will tell you it is the timing chain... I have a 2008 XL7 and I have the same thing but I also get a timing chain code that goes with it...
I did much research and it is a common issue with those 3.6l v6 motors... It should be a factory recall but I quess not enough people have contacted them about it... Sad thing is that is a Chevy motor... bad new for Chevy... but we are in Suzuki...

P0306 Cylinder misfire

Hello, I have a 2007 Suzuki XL7 that is yet again it the shop. The first issue I had with it was the timing chain going thru the motor. The dealership put a new motor in it & did a very poor job putting it back together, nothing but problems since. They are out of business now-imagine that! After the timing chain thing, the new motor has only 10,000 miles on it if that. I got a code P0306 Cylinder misfire, got that fixed, then an electrical issue occurred which took a long time to fix. I have an awesome mechanic working on it. So as of late its in the shop yet again & he's checked the compression-its fine & it's also not the sparkplug or coil, he checked that too. It's giving a P0306 cylinder misfire code again. I really like it but it's been in the shop more than I've been able to drive it! Does anyone else have any other ideas of what it could be? It's doing the chugging, sputtering, jerking, grinding, etc. as others have described above. Very frustrating & expensive!! The new motor has but 10,000 miles on it & about 82,000miles overall. Any ideas, advice would be GREATLY appreciated!!
