After looking at the posts here I was not satisfied with the statements that said the security unit would have to be replaced. I took my unit out to get a better look at it and after some trial and error I had 4 key Remotes (FOB s) programmed.

I will post the instructions here as soon as I can produce an Adobe Acrobat file with pictures. …And no, you don’t need to be an auto mechanic to do it.

You will have to join this forum to download the document.

There's never been a question of whether a 99-00 could be programmed, it's the 01-02 that can't be.
I'm curious how the dealer goes about it on replacing a keyless fob for the 01-02? one of mine locks but doesn't unlock. I'm probably going to add an aftermarket alarm with keyless entry to get around replacing it.

That is an accessory keyless remote kit, not the factory installed system.
Tim, are you SURE that's not factory? I've got the same one as shown in the programing link.

Mine came w/the car new. Dealer installed maybe, but still a Zuki part. ;)

I added an alarm module to it too. Plugs right in to the remote door lock brain box along with a supplied "valet" switch and shock sensor.

That kit is the Suzuki accessory keyless entry, there is an alarm module that plugs into the side. It also fit the Esteem. We could not use them in Canada due to a conflict with the radio frequency they use.

The keyless kit was PN 99980-47100..
The security system add on was PN 99980-46100..

There was different wiring harnesses depending on what model you were installing it into (I don't kave the PN for those..)

XL7Limited,

You might try and find a used receiver that is programmable, then you only need to buy new remotes.

Cheers,

Tim

Thanks!!

Your pdf with pictures is AWESOME! The instructions that I received with my replacement remote simply said to push the button next to the LCD on the module. I looked for an hour and couldn't find it. Using your instructions, I took off the "skirt" and had it working in less than 5 minutes. Thanks a ton!

Hello, I'm hoping to receive a reply to this topic even though it's from 2006. Is it best that I type a new topic? Anyhow, we have the same exact keyless remote, same numbers etc. Here's the problem - the remote dosen't work! The battery was replaced at the cost of $8 and still nothing! Couldit be that the remote needs to be reprogrammed as mentioned above? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello, I'm hoping to receive a reply to this topic even though it's from 2006. .
I too am glad you brought this up, as now I know I have this on my 00 GV Limited. :) I bought it used 6 months ago from a PV seller. Upon this post getting brought back to the top, I ran outside to look at mine and there it is under the drivers side dash. Now, time to look for remotes or call the guy I got it from and ask him what happened to them.

Anyone have any links they can post for buying the remote????? Come on Max, I know you have one or two or a hundred links for me to check out! Now it's time to explore the net to look for them. Learn something new every day I guess

2000 Grand Vitara - V6 Standard Edition

Ive just bought one of these, and it didnt come with any remote keyless entry.. the central locking all works and ive searched google for hours trying to find out whether i can buy and program keyless entry in but am not having much luck!
Does anybody know if this model was manufactured with keyless entry or whether i will need to have the system installed?
Cheers

What I had to do on my 2000 Tracker was to give the VIN# to a dealership to see if it came with keyless entry. It did:D so I bought a fob on e-bay. It came with programming directions. From what I know from my search, that is the only way to tell if it came with factory remote entry.

Signal

I followed these instructions and it worked great. My problem now is my remote will only work if I am using it within inches of the unit inside my vehicle. I have to hold it up to the dash skirt. I just put a new battery in the remote thinking the old one was weak but that did not help. Does the keyless unit need to be replaced? Is there any way of boosting the signal?

Just for general information I purchased an aftermarket key fob from mykeyless-1 on e-bay. Followed the directions from this thread to find the module and then followed the directions sent from the ebay seller. Less than 10 minutes and $25 an I have a new working remote. Last time I replaced a remote through the dealer I spent $156.

I found my saved original programming file copy and corrected that first post link and cleaned up this old thread a bit. ;)

Thank you SO much for this. This was a life saver for my 2000 Suzuki Grand Vitara as I had no idea I had to remove the knee panel cover to get to the unit to get it into program mode!

The above is the unit I got. It works after YOUR help. Note the ebay sell just send you FOB - nothing else - had to learn how to program here. Again thank you so much!
