Default Alto wont start

My daughter has a 2009 Alto, it has done 17k miles, has a full service history, last week she drove the car parked it over night, the next day it would not start. It turned over but would not fire. ( it has of a tank of petrol)

The next day, I get to the car, first check the voltage across the battery, it is fine. I turn the key in the ignition wait to make sure no warning lights remain on or flash, etc

I could hear the petrol pump start, I then turned the key, the engine fires up.

Some black smoke is produced but this is a one off even, not reproduced as a result of reving the engine or driving the car.

We drive the car for ten minutes without any problems, an hour later we take the car home. Again no problems.

The next day the day car starts without issue, the day after the car does not start, if you wait for the pump to kick in the car seems to start.

If you try and start the engine straight away it turns over but does not fire and then it wont start at all, you have to leave it, wait for the pump to kick in and try whilst the pump is working, it starts.

Suggestions as to what is causing this failure to start.
