Default SX4 error code P0031

The mil is lit.The code reader is showing error code "P0031 $07E8 HO2S heater control circuit low bank1 sensor1".
How do I fix this or turn the mil off? Thanks in advance.......

start diagnosing the circuit, real time live data scanner is the easiest way to prove if its a sensor or the wiring to it.

Diagnose before firing the parts cannon. Then you can reset the MIL light using the same scanner you use for diagnostics in most cases. Until the fault is fixed you will have a MIL and poor running and economy.

What you need to do is look at the output waveform from the sensor and see what its doing. Sounds like you are only looking at live data codes, not the actual output from the sensor. This "code" is telling you there is a fault in the fuel trim somewhere, which may or may not be an O2 sensor. It can be wiring, vacuum leaks, all sorts of things.

That is telling you that the heater circuit for the B1S1 is at fault, the O2 sensor will take longer to come to temp, keeping the ECU in open loop..(OL)

Measure the voltage across the 2 common coloured wires on the upstream O2 sensor, should see battery voltage.. Key on/engine run...

next, with O2 disconnected, measure resistance across the common coloured wires of the Sensor, if open, replace sensor...

What engine do you have? 4 or 6 cyl

the S1 sensors are the closest to the engine, if you gave a V6 you will have a B1 and B2..

2 common colours, ei 2 white, or 2 black, or 2 XXX, common means they are the same..
