Default Fuel Pump for 2002 Swift GLS

Hi,

I bought a second hand Swift GLS 2002 3 door hatchback (993cc 52 bhp) for 400. Car has 100k miles on it.

Really like the car, cheeky little thing which carries all my band equipment around without worry.

Got it serviced, cambelt changed and through MOT for 250.

All was good for a year. Then failed MOT for a leaking fuel tank and corroded exhaust.

Got a good second hand tank, and had to replace the cat section of the exhaust.

However, before I put it in for MOT, the car had been cutting out (stalling) when driving at speed (50mph +) and also when going uphill. It would drop out and then would pick back up after about 5 seconds. So I never actually came to a stand still, but was obviously quite dodgy on the road.

Internet research led me to look at fuel pressure issues. So with new tank and new filter in, I was hopeful.

Unfortunately, this did not cure the issue, so my mechanic is suggesting we change the fuel pump, as it was likely pumping all the crap from the corroding fuel tank through a blocked filter, and with 100k worth of service.

Now, problem is, we can't find a reasonable replacement. Suzuki want 500 for a new one!! I'd rather scrap the car and start again at that price!

I'd appreciate it if anyone could point me at a reliable source for a replacement pump.

Many thanks.

The seem to be lots to choose from. If you enter your VIN here it may narrow it down to what fits yours, unless you happen to know the part number.

Would think the pump was okay
and the junk in second hand tank was clogging the sock
Or maybe crap even got into the pump?

How well was the replacement tank checked out??

Well, hope you can fix it
Good luck
