Hi all its great to finally find this forum been looking for one like this a long time .I recently did a spring over and three inch body lift on my jimny. The problem I've been getting is that the van wobbles on higher speeds and if it hits a bump it really wobbles :eek: and i have to stop to end the wobble. When doing the spring over i left the original springs can anyone tell me if using stiffer springs and bolting them under the diff can reduce the wobble or any other suggestions.Thanks for any reply on this

There may need to be some shimming, I forget the spec (5deg maybe) at the top of the spindle, if this is off then it plays hell with frontend geometry and drivability. I researched it quite a bit but turns out my problem was shackle related.

Search Death Wobble, just throwing a bone until someone that has corrected the problem first hand adds to it.

I just know someone will chime in with specifics of exactly where to measure the angle and what it should be at.

Tie rod ends and such are all tight?

What did you do with the steering component of the lift sequence.
If you left it like stock it will wobble till you change the steering.
All the steering rods should be as parallel to each other as possible.
Aftermarket if full of methods of reducing death wobble troubles.

When done correctly the steering is much better, but be sure to address the problem with help from other forum members.
Simple answer is get a steering kit.
Good success with Breeze Indistries 'Z' link.
Also with tough truck full lift.
Also with drop pitman arm.
Research what you like best then do ALL of it at one time, it's cheaper.
Fun eh ?

the steering is mostly stock except a z link was added and too a heftier steering damper shock but thanks for the advice on it. As i asked before can stiffer shocks help reduce the wobbles?

Shocks will help mask the problem but won't correct it.
Wow , where to start?
The 3 " body lift is a tough one . We never recommend going over 1" on the body.
With 3" you run into a bunch of issues . Your going to need to extend ( lengthen ) your steering column, If you haven't already. Shifters, break and fuel lines, and a mi-rad of other things. BAD idea....
The Spoa if done right is a GOOD idea.
But require more mods than most people realize.
First , you must never rotate your front axle to try to soften the pinion angle.
This will throw your caster angle off and cause your Zuke to wander all over the place.
( Caster needs to be 3 - 5 deg. to the negative)
You must get your steering geometry set back to parallel. A full high steer kit is the only sure way to do this with a SPOA.
Without the high steer kit you will have bump steer.
A "Z" link won't solve bump steer....Sory...
Brake lines need extending, A long travel shock kit is a good investment, a track bar is a necessity, if your going to wheel it, drive line spacers will need to be installed.
Now to death wobble: If everything was done correctly when the lift was done ,
check your bushings, tire balance and condition, alignment, tire air pressure, and king pin bearings. And make sure that your pitman arm is not loose......Boxcar...

well the steering rod has been extended and also the brake and gas lines the shifter is ok but it could grow a few inches to be perfect but now its useable for the while ......i plan on getting it aligned as i put on a two inch wheel spacer to set the tyres a bit wider for the van to sit wider and spread the center of gravity. i plan on leaving the stock shocks and add four additional shocks with coil springs on them to stiff up the ride this i think should do it and reduce the excessive body movement. i know too there is an additional steering damper shock that can be attached to the diff to help with the steering issues but i have to research it a bit. Has anyone added this additional damper shock to their steering before and can advise me?

You need to do a lot more reasurch.....2" wheel spacers????? your kidding, right.
Coil overs????
a second dampener?
None of these mods will help you solve your problems. In fact they will exaggerate the problem greatly....

Hey all been a while but i sloved the wobble trouble ....firstly the steering coupling rubber was busted, next all five ends were shot all this made for bad steering , i tried adding shocks with coil overs but all this did was make the ride very very bumpy. Eventually i got it right I added a track bar from the chassi to the diff side to side and also from the front to back therefore stabilizing the diff ....havent given me any trouble as yet although i think ill add coil springs alone from the diff to the chassi this should improve the ride but for now its working fine ........hope this helps others like me
