There's a whistling sound coming from the engine everytime I turn on the ignition. The sound subsides after 30 seconds or so of idling.

What could be the cause? This started just five days ago.

Sounds like a loose alternator belt. Does this happen only in the morning?
or during a cold start (long engine rest) even during night?

Try adjusting the tensioner of that belt, if the squeaking sound disappears, then
it's the culprit.

Just my 5 cents.

is it a whistling sound or squeaking sound?? Try adjusting your belt like bruce says but if it is the belt remember to check its condition. might want to change it na. hassle to have a broken belt in the middle of nowhere.

Actually that "squeaking" thing happened to me. But to further describe the sound
of a loose belt, try to imagine this . . . a car is running fast & it suddenly brakes,
that "braking" sound is more like it. Sounds like a screeeeeeeeeecccchhhhh!!!!!
or something like a brake pad always in contact with the disk.

Have you tried to tighten the belt? But you should have the right amount of
tension. I have read this from other forum, but I can't remember the figure.
Anyway, we don't have those proper instruments for measuring the tension.
So just try to feel the "hardness" or "tension" in your belt & compare it to your
friend's belt (Zuki owner) that doesn't squeak.

I checked the belt, no cracks, the tension looks okay.

Its more of a whistling sound rather than a squeaking sound.

My brakes are fine, no squeaks everytime I press the pedal.

I think the best way to do is to first "find out where the noise comes from."
Does it sound after you move the vehicle or while still at idle?
Tell us what you've discovered after checking the source of the noise, ok?

BTW my belt looks tight before but still it makes noise after I started it early
in the morning. You can never tell by just looking at it. Just try my
suggestion, tighten it a bit & see if it doesn't make noise anymore.
If the noise is still there after you adjust it, then it's time to move on
& try something else.
