What's the easiest way to remove an outer bearing race from a Samurai rear axle housing? & Can I push / press in a backing plate/ axle assembley back into the housing... in my drive way? :huh:

yes to the drive way ive done it i just cut the part (both sides) that the seal runs on with a dremmal been careful not to nick the axle and then hit it with a cold chisel same as the bearing then to get the bearing and the bit that the seal runns on i just used a long peice of pipe over the axel and hammered away this part takes a bit and it has to be dead square to the axle to go on easy becareful not to damage the backing plate of the bearing. i used a small peice of railway line as a anvil

Thought so

Thanks Lokdzuk. Thought so, on removal. I had picked up a complete rear axle that I was going to drop in, but it has been hacked a bit. So I'll pull parts and press it in to my "virgin";) axle housing.

Then it's on to the RUF/ CJ bushing dilema. Might not be CJ springs cuz they're 1-7/8" wide.
