I have no idea.. It does not have any sort of wear marks.. It does not even have any bolt on marks. Looks to me that it never bolted on to anything..hmm

I've seen guys use the roller mounted under the rig to run the winch cable under the rig... so you can pull your self back when the wench is mounted on the front. They also use it to roll off rocks rather than hook a body panel on a rock. Ever look at the tail end of a long RV? they have wheels mounted on the end for leaving high angled drive ways and such.

That looks a lot like one half of a door closer - a very old fashioned, spring loaded door closer - a type that I haven't seen in decades.

The other half is a short spring loaded rod that bears against that roller (the roller is on the door) and pushes the door closed - the roller is there to prevent the rod from gouging the surface of the door.
