Hello guys thought i would update you as to how my carry van is going. Well i've not got much done so far!:( All I have had time to do is remove side door handle and weld in a panel. I have still not got any wheels yet:mad: but i will have my tubular header pipe next weekend and am going to use an RC40 exhaust system (used to use them on my minis, they are designed for 1000cc engine). I am bidding on a Eaton M45 supercharger on ebay if i win i will be having a go at fitting that:eek: I have tried to post some pics but i think the file size is to big Will have to dig out my old camera during the week. Will keep you all posted!!!

by the way, off topic: is it possible to fit size 14 or 15 wheels (low profile tires inclusive) without welding something in the body?? thanks!

J-six sorry its taken so long to reply. If you use 5.5x14 inch rims with 165/60/14 tyres you may be able to put them on with no body mods but remember if you have sliding side doors you will have to make sure you have space for them to work. I am getting my wheels on thursday so if i have time at work i will fit the tyres and put one on the van to give you an idea of the amount of body mods i am going to have to do to make my carry road legal here in the UK. I have my exhaust, but there has been a delay with doing my header pipe. Also I won the supercharger on ebay so should have that in the next few days. Hope to start work this weekend, i have the grinder and welder on standby he he he. Promise I will put some pics on before the weekend.

Hi J-six, I got my wheels and tyres today. I have put two on to test and take some pictures. I can confirm for you that you can fit 6x14 rims with 185/55/14 tyres with no modifications to the body. The tyres stick out which in this country is against the law but for you guys if you can get away with it shouldnt be a problem. The rims specs you will need are 6x14, PCD 4x114, centre bore 60.1 (larger and use a spigot ring) offset (ET) 16mm. My main concern was if the side doors were going to clear the wheels but they do. The wheels fit perfectly.

I have attached some pics. A few so you can see the wheels fitted and how much the stick out, a couple show RC40 1 3/4inch stainless exhaust system. The eaton M45 supercharger and the engine bay were its going to go.

way to go! thanks very much for the experiment with the r14 tires. i hope i would be able to trade in my dilapidated magwheels for an r14 type of tire.

bro, a question, when you try turning either left or right does it make contact with the tire wall with those tires of yours? i guess that's my problem with my current wheels - 175/55/r13 tires.

I can turn the steering lock to lock and the tyres dont catch anywhere. I have just started the first wheel arch today. I have a lot of rust to sort out and patch up but will keep you updated as to how the build is going. Will take a few pics of the wheel arch and post it for you.

Wheel size effect on drive ratio

Thanks for all the info on tire sizes. I want to put larger tires on my 91 every van. Currently the five speed gearign is to low for my driving habits and the van revs too high in fifth when crusing on the highway (110-120 km/h). THe tires you reccommend are almost three iches larger in circimferance than the stock 145/80 r12's that I have now. Can you say if these slightly larger tires will significantly reduce my RPM at high speed? Do you know of any "online calculator" that woudl provide this info? ( I already checked out the tire size calculator you recommended in another thread.)

Hello shoganai, I am not sure what its like in Canada but the biggest problems in the uk are getting wheels to fit the super carry, the law that says wheels must be covered by the wheel arch and the fact i wanted to be able to use the side doors.

My van came with 155/80/12 tyres so 185/55/14 tyres are as close as you'll get to keep speedo correct. If you have 145/80/12 tyre you would have to go for a 185/50/14 tyre to keep the same rolling radius. this would keep your speedo reading as close to correct as possible.

if you are wanting to use tyre size to change the gearing i think you will need to find the biggest rim/tyre combo that will fit in the arches. So its a case of getting your tape measure out and seeing what will fit.

Hope this helps if not let me know and i'll try work it out for you.

Ps I would look into rims that fit. If you need help with wheel specs let me know i can try work out what offset etc you will need.

Shogunai, in order to determine the RPM difference, measure your original tires circumfrance, then measure your new tire circumfrance. The percentage difference in the tire size will be the same as the percentage difference in your speedometer and odometer.

For instance, if your new tires are 20% larger cicumfrance than your original, your speedo will read 20% slower, and your engine will run 20% lower RPM at the same road speed.

Or he could just use the tyre size calculator that i posted a link to, Its does it for you. Much easier than getting the tape measure out :0)

Thanks to both shadownseiko and monometalico. I use the tire size calculator very extensively after seeing your link before I even joined the site. It is excellent. I didnt realize that the there was a direct 1 to 1 relationship from tire size increase to rpm reduction, but now I know. Unfortunately I dont think that tires alone will get me where I want to be so maybe I will change the gearign in the transfer case or the tranny. I am looking to get 50mpg on the highway (17km/L) (5.65L/100km)

What wheel manufacturer and model?

Monometalico, what company is the manufacturer of the 14 inch wheels you found. I have had no luck in canada finding the PCD and offset which you prescribed (and which I concur is dead acurate). WIth the manufacturer and model I could possibly find a Canadian supplier or do an overseas order. Thanks in advance for your help.

Front wheel bearings???

Maybe monometalico can answer this one-
I am looking for some part #'s for the front wheel bearings, inside race and grease seal. Anyone with US, canadian, or even uk numbers for these it would be much appreciated. In particular I have a 1991 660 turbo every (like a super carry). Mine is all wheel drive. thanks a bunch.

Shoganai, My wheels are made by Revolution wheels.com. I will look into your bearing question but i would guess that you would have to buy a wheel bearing kit. I will let you know asap.

Shoganai i have had a look in our listings at work to see if i can find a part number for the parts you need. Sorry but as your model is not sold in the UK it does not show in any of our listings. I would suggest that you try all the parts suppliers you can as you should be able to find a non genuine part or you could take out the old bearing and take it to a bearing dealer and get them to match one up.

Sorry i can be more help.
