I got a '87 sammi months ago. Had to replace the lock outs for 4 wheel drive. Now that im using it in 3 foot snow drifts im hearing grinding noises coming from the t-case. When im driving through something and there is pressure on the wheels it sounds fine, when im driving down a road it grinds when i get off the throttle. I dont go over 30 mph on flat roads. PLEASE HELP

thank you for your tip, how do you check the output gear? the unit has a spring over axle lift on it, how do you check that too?

I've not had a trans case die like that but are you sure it's coming from that. My pinion bearing sounded like that when it went. Under power quiet, off the gas and all was grinding away.

Easiest check for the output gear is to reach up and shake the output flange. If if wiggles, then you need to change it cause its broke.

hen check the Ujoints and front pinion for play. I'll bet it's one of those.
