Assuming the transfer case is currently installed in a vehicle, Jack the rear wheels off the ground and with trans in neutral/front wheels chocked well crawl under, or from inside if you lift the shifter boot you can see the intermediate shaft, not sure if you can grab it though.

Mark the intermediate shaft and output flange, manually turn the intermediate shaft 1 full turn while counting the rotations of the output flange. It wont have to be precise but youl know if you have OEM or one of the common aftermarket ratios. Repeat for low range, I know both Hi and Lo are reduced unlike normal xfer cases in normal vehicles. :cool:

I know some of the aftermarket are 6.4 and 6.5 which will be hard to distinguish with the above mentioned method in Low range, but those gearsets have a fairly different Hi range so you should be able to narrow it down this way when compared to advertised ratios of the common aftermarket gearsets.

Not really good info for figuring the low range gear ratio of the tcase.
What you need to do is count how many turns of the intermediate shaft it takes to turn the tcase output shaft 1 turn. For example, if it takes 6.5 turns of the intermediate shaft to turn the tcase output shaft 1 turn, then it has either 6.4 or 6.5 gears in the tcase.
Common low range ratios for aftermarket tcase gearsets for the samurai are...
4.16
4.9
5.1
6.4
6.5

A stock samurai tcase has a low range ratio of 2.268.
