I'm pretty sure I've got an electrical issue this time. I have a 94 sammy with an engine that likes to only run a month at a time. Here's the sequence of events that caused me to swear a lot and play grand theft auto on my ps2 to blow off steam by killing hookers.

1: Driving down the highway for about 20 miles, no issues
2: Exit highway to empty my bladder at the nearest gas station
3: about half way up the exit ramp my stereo shut off
4: half way through my acceleration through first gear the engine shut off
5: coasted downhill to the gas station trying to start the engine while i was rolling (most of the swearing happened during this step)
6: waiting for my parents to come with their durango to tow me to the shop, tried to start every few minutes, but no luck with the engine. just got a little loopy off the fumes from unburnt gasoline coming out the tailpipe.

well, i feel like an idiot now. the center cable popped off my distributor cap. had i actually opened the hood instead of yelling at the steering wheel i could have been back on the road about 20 seconds after stopping. bent the connector out a little bit to give it some extra grab and i'm back on the road without problems.

it's not over yet. she broke down again this morning. it's got an oil leak that wasn't too bad, only about a quart every 200 -300 miles. but it must have gotten a lot worse this morning. i'm pretty sure i broke another rocker arm due to not enough oil. the oil is pooling up on the top of the bell housing. the valve cover gasket was replaced a month ago when i replaced the rocker arms, so i'm guessing the valve cover is warped. it's getting harder and harder to convince my wife to not send this thing to the scrap yard. i just need to keep it running as a daily driver for a couple more years, then i can get another car for a daily driver and keep the samurai as an off road toy.

well, it's not going to the scrap yard. we talked and since one of our cars is going to have to be replaced soon to make roof for two kids (a one year old, and a baby due in a month), and mine is easier and cheaper to fix, hers (2001 grand prix) is going to be sold after a few repairs to bring its value up. i don't think there's any oil coming from any seams on the distributor, but i'll take a closer look once i get her in the shop. the engine still turns and will now idle under its own power, just not very well. that gives me hope that the most i'll have to spend at one time is a couple hundred for an engine rebuild kit. i have two family members working in the same office i do, so i'll always have a ride for the couple weeks she's down for the rebuild. until then, i'll keep playing "replace the part".
