have 89 suzuki samurai finishing up an engine rebuild but am currently stuck at at the idler/tensioner pulley, i believe ive got everything bolted up right but when i go to torque down the idler pulley bolt it puts everything else in a bind. This will not allow the bracket that in back of pulley to move up and down, my question is there sometype of spacer that goes in back of the idler pully to keep from compressing the sloted bracket that the spring connects to off of the water pump and allows it to move

take a look at the Engine Section of the Samurai FSM at Ack's FAQ. To find and download it, do a search for fsm.

The link to Ack's FAQ is in my signature, below.

I'm not 100% but I think you leave the bolt a little loose. Just enough that the adjustment bracket moves. After you make the adjust on tension. Then tighten it down to spec.
