you could be looking at piston to bore clearance out of specs or you could have rocker shafts worn out ,take it to a qualified suzuki service department .

I have a 2004 verona. Ive had nothing but problems since I got it. It has been knocking for last 6 months. I took it to the suzuki dealer they told me nothing was wrong with it. 2 weeks later we went on vacation and drove to Florida. My car started breaking down 2 hrs before we got there. I found a dealer in Florida they told me they needed to replace the heads. They kept my car for 2 weeks. I had to rent a car to get home and than fly back to florida and drive my car home. Now a week later the check engine light is on again. Last xmas it was in the shop for 2 weeks to replace the coil and spark plugs. Every time I take the car in they tell me its fine. I will never buy another suzuki!!!!!

My 2004 Verona LX bought in 2005 currently has 25,915 miles on it and is the shop getting a new engine! (short block and new head) It won't cost me a dime as I upgraded the warranty to complete bumper to bumper with $0 deductible when I bought it. It started guzzling oil at about 25,000 mi about a quart every 100 mi !! The Suzuki dealer who has it says a Teflon?? cylinder lining is scored and pealing leaving voids that the synthetic oil is oozing through into the upper cylinders. I can't imagine a teflon coating so it must be some other friction reducing compound. Does anyone know what it is? maybe some moly compound. I imagine I'll be keeping mine until the warranty runs out as it has a very low trade-in value (according to the dealer I bought it from!)

Here's the problem. The engine block is aluminum. The cylinders are NOT sleeved. Sound rediculous? Well, that's the '04 Verona. I don't have any info yet on when, or if they started to sleeve these engines...
BTW, These are Korean vehicles. GM-DAT (General Motors-Daewoo Auto & Technology) .
Some say "real Suzuki's are made in Japan"...
